Inexplicable membership with Medibank Private

I recently contacted my bank after noticing a charge from Medibank Private, I was encouraged to check after receiving a txt telling me Medibank Private would send details to the Tax department.

I have never signed up with them nor do I have any desire to.

How does this happen? neither my bank nor Medibank Private can or won't answer this question, have a form I need to fill out to recover the money.

  • Surely Medibank Private can tell you about your membership if you've got one on their system. Maybe visit a store with ID and see if they can show you what you're supposed to have signed up to.

  • They knew me as a paying customer and cancelled the account, but when grilled about how this happened they just say "I don't know" I just checked my emails and the account was created while I was in hospital.

You most likely signed some paperwork without realising what it was. Having been with dad while he was being admitted I was amazed at the amount of paperwork and decisions they tried to bombard him with while he was in pain and being treated. Most of it was pushing for him to go into private etc, all aimed at profit for the hospital. I quickly sorted them out.

    • Were you in a private hospital?

      • No, RPAH

        • One the day I was readmitted … as I had some swelling they think, was feeling very poorly after major surgery and was in Campbelltown then transferred to RPAH.

    credit card chargeback.

    • Some how a direct debit was setup … which is completely baffling and worrying.

  • That is certainly weird. And the fact that all they can answer is, "I just don't know" is terribly concerning as well. You would think that signing up to health insurance requires jumping through a few hoops that would be recorded.

Send an email to them and when they respond with an unyielding reply, just open a case with ACCC. When they fail to respond to you in a months time, just open a case with the court. It is not about the money, what happened was fraud.

      Ridiculous reply.
How did arrive at it being fraud, from what was posted by the OP?
ACCC - won't give it the time of day.

  • What is the cost of the policy you have now anyway.
