OzBargainer's Experiences with Buybuybox or Expansys?

Hi Ozbargain, I'm super keen on getting a new phone and would really like to combine my work and personal phones into one (hence dual sim capabilities). Unfortunately work is sticking with iphones exclusively but I'm more than happy to buy my own phone and was looking at the OnePlus 8 pro IN2023 (global model). There seems to be two sellers, buybuybox & expansys, that keep popping up as the cheapest, both offering around $1250. Next cheapest (but possibly more reliable) is Kogan for $1340.
Just curious about other people's experience with these sellers as there appears to be a LOT of mixed reviews floating around. Is the extra $100 or so worth it for kogan? Open to other dual sim "flagship" phone suggestions!

Thanks in advance.

  • Buybuybox's after sales service and warranty are in china.

  • You'll get no warranty

    • Sorry for not responding, didnt realise I wasnt logged in on my home desktop. Thanks for the heads up, I think ill just have to cop that one on the chin if it comes to it. Work covered half the phone cost so it'll hurt less if it comes to it ;)

  • +1

I have been considering buying from BuyBuyBox but have unsuccessfully emailed them twice on simple query regarding coupon codes. Their Ebay feedback rating is 96%. This is quite low with 4 per 100 unhappy buyers normally concerning zero warranty support and communication.
They do not charge GST and on Ebay claim many items are supplied from an Australian warehouse. They are in fact supplied ex Hong Kong.
I'm staying well clear as their price advantage is the GST difference and a $500-$1000 bricked mobile is a very expensive paper weight.
I'm surprised the ACCC don't get on their case and that so many people buy from their EBay store with such a lower feedback rating which is dropping slowly.

    • Wish I saw this before ordering haha. I did a LOT of research after this post and found very similar comments on what you're saying.
Like you said it was meant to be coming from "Australia warehouse" but their tracker shows international (likely Hong Kong). Only saving grace was work covering half the phone price which will sting less IF it comes to a warranty issue with the phone.

      Appreciate the heads up.

      • Hi gravy train, just wanted to follow up with you and your order I have seen a good deal with buybuybox but I am out off by these posts. How did you go? Any issues?

        • No real issues man. They lied about the stock coming from Australia when it actually came from HK but it still arrived within their estimated timeframe (within 2 weeks). Haven't had to try claim warranty or anything so not sure how that would go but so far so good!

          • @Gravy Train: Thanks for the quick reply. As it came from HK did you have to pay GST? Also was the os in English?

            • @jstar168: I bought form their ebay store but no there was no additional GST charges. Phone was brand new in box so on startup it asked me which language to use but english was the default.
