How to Apply for Voluntary Redundancy?

Hi Ozbargainers,

My company that I'm currently with has offered a round of voluntary redundancies. I've got another job lined up so that's why I want to take it while it's there.

My question is how do you write the letter that you express your interest and apply for voluntary redundancy?

Should it be very detailed or a few liners basically stating I want to apply and give a date for when you'll be leaving?

Thanks

You seem to have got OzBargain, Australia's foremost bargains sharing community, mixed up with your HR department.

    Ask them.

Dont tell them you have an offer, just say the time is right and you are interested.

    Congrats on the new job!

It's as simple as following the instructions on the communication (email to HR, or a specialised email address). Usually a really simple email like..

    Dear Whoever,

I wish to formally express my interest in the Voluntary Redundancy programme at Company announced on the X/Y/Z.

Please let me know what I need to do to progress my interest.

    Regards,
    ay-papii

They'll then come at you with an offer if you're accepted, and you can go from there.

    • Thank you very much.
      Sounds very straightforward and professional

PS I like how you wrote "Regards, ay-papii" 😂😂

It's addressed to HR. It shows while they may deal with this sort of stuff, they aren't important enough for anyone to bother to know their name.

    • dear whoever

gimme me money, I like u very muchy

  • It's a bit of a juggle between expressing your interest in leaving, but not so keen that if you don't get it, it doesn't look like you have no commitment and will be overlooked for all opportunities in the future.

Express it as a opportunity for change and development for yourself. That's the general angle.

If there isn't a prescribed template provided/suggested by your current employer, I suggest the following:

    To homeboy/girl it may concern,

Imma hafta take ur voluntary redunce, yo.

Hit me up with dem deets.

    Peas out,
    X-izzle

    Letter to your HR dept

    Yo

Whats the terms and conditions of the voluntary sacking? how many people gittin the flick? how much cash you given? do I just tell you and walk out or I gotta stick around for a bit? I don't wanna do this but I am broke, I need stacks quick !

    Peace

  • Make sure if you have rec leave and long service leave you use it before you cease. Worth more to tou to take it than get paid out. Ie you may well be employed for months before you actually cease. All the time clicking up employment time and leave.

If they want to pay you out ask for a cash bonus on top (significant due to tax).

  • If you have a good relationship with your boss you might talk to him.
