1440p Monitor Refresh Rates with a 5600 XT

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone has experience with 2k (1440p) gaming with a 5600 XT, as it's quite an entry level 1440p gaming GPU.

I'm looking for a 1440p monitor at the moment (upgrading from 1080p 144Hz) and don't have the biggest budget, so was hoping for something less than $400.

Since the 5600 XT isn't able to consistently get high fps for all games, I was wondering if, say, a 144Hz monitor would be worthwhile, or I can settle for like a 75Hz one, because there's this Kogan sale at the moment (not sure if it's actually a good one, just found it): https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-24-qhd-freesync-75hz-moniā€¦

It's 24in 1440p 75Hz IPS for $279 which seems pretty good, but not sure whether I should wait for a better deal: either 27 inch, higher refresh rate, or even a cheap 1440p ultrawide I wouldn't mind. Like is a 15Hz difference significant?
If anyone knows a good ultrawide deal as well that'd be appreciated, but they're obviously a higher budget item in most cases.

In terms of things like contrast, colour accuracy and even response time, I'm not too fussed as long as it's not noticeably bad or anything. Like I'm not a good enough gamer to notice milliseconds delay of response time. I'd prefer like IPS because that's generally what people recommend however. So really it's about that extra money being spent on as high as 144Hz refresh rates for a GPU that may not be able to fully utilise it at the moment.

Cheers

I just built up my first PC with a Sapphire RX 5600 XT Pulse and I'm getting 144 fps on 1920x1080 in Modern Warfare. Higher fps is always better for shooters but it's also down to personal preference. There isn't a huge difference between FHD and 2k for me so I would rather higher fps/smoother gameplay than higher resolution.

    • Awesome, thanks for the reply.

I play a lot of Valorant and fps titles at the moment so the high refresh rate may be more valuable.
Not upgrading also saves money so that's a big up. I'm thinking I might just be patient and wait for a real good deal then.

I should add that I'm also using an AOC 27 inch 27G2 144hz FHD monitor. I've read comments saying FHD on a 27 inch is pushing it for pixel density but I'd been using my PS4 on a 50 inch 4k TV but limited to FHD for years and I was fine with that lol

5600XT will be around 60-100fps in a lot of games (generalising but you get the idea), so 144Hz is well and truly worth it. You don't have to get 144fps to appreciate high refresh and freesync makes a variable frame rate seamless. There's also the advantages of easily achieving 144fps in older games, or dialing some visual settings back to get above 100fps, and the general feel of 144Hz for normal usage. 75Hz monitors are really no good nowadays, even for non-gaming.

    • That's really helpful thanks.

Honestly didn't even consider usage outside of gaming, so I'll definitely just wait for a good 144Hz deal.

    • Can 5600 xt play Warzone on 27" monitor at 144hz at 1440p well?

    I'd recommend 27in at least for 1440p

  • Hi, just wondering about how things went. I have a Sapphire 5600 xt coming my way and will be playing Warzone. I have a 27" monitor 144 hz and wondering if I can play at 1440p. Do I have to lower the setting to get a good frame rate? Or do I have to play at a different res?

    Thanks

    • G'day,

I ended up purchasing a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor. I don't really play intensive games, but, for Valorant and GTA V, the 5600 XT worked really well.

I was able to get above 100 fps in GTA V and higher than 144 fps with Valorant and Fortnite.

It was really impressive, and I think the Sapphire Pulse model is regarded as better then the Gigabyte Gaming OC model, although I'm not sure if that's performance wise or value/overall.

1440p will definitely be playable for Warzone!
