27" Gaming monitor for total n00b

Hi ozgamers

I know nothing about monitors please help.

Looking for a reasonably priced 27 or greater inch monitor for playing games on my PS4.

Currently I'm using an old Dell work monitor that is supremely low spec but haven't had any issues with it, so I don't feel the need to get anything too fancy. Just something reasonably priced and up to the job.

Any tips suggestions welcomed.

PS4 doesn't output 1440p or 144hz that is massively overkill.

next gen consoles and fit for PC gaming. Pretty affordable and well reviewed.

No mention of them supporting 1440p, fk all info tbh out yet.

But he's a console player no mention of PC.

For anyone getting a PS5 or Xbox Series X its best to wait for more info on what resolutions they are supporting.

    65" tv

  • Seeing a lot of reviews saying FHD at 27 inch is no good. thoughts?

It's subjective. For competitive gamers, 1080p with high refresh rate is what they swear by. For everyone else, that's too low res and would want 1440p (PC) or 4K minimum.

      PS4 doesn't output 1440p though so you're probably stuck with 1080p.

PS4 (particularly Pro) isn't really meant to be played on a small monitor though and better suited to a 4K HDR TV. Do reconsider.

So what's wrong with the old Dell? Why do you need a new one? What are you after?
Changing monitor is not going to significantly upend your PS4 experience.
Consoles are usually made to be played on big TV. PS4 is 1080p (PS4 Pro 4K) and 60fps.
You don't need any fancy monitor.

Are you going to get a PS5? PS5 will allow for higher refresh rates (ability to show show more frames per second). If not PS4 is typically only 30 FPS so just get a cheap IPS @ 1080p 60Hz. Something like this https://www.umart.com.au/Philips-27in-FHD-IPS-75Hz-Freesync-…

Don't be afraid of a 4K monitor. Console games are always going to target 30/60hz so don't be afraid of 60hz either. IPS is best, but there are good TNs too. And you will want it to have a headphone jack so you can plug speakers into it, if you don't already have another way to do that.

  • What do you guys reckon between these two Acer screens for low end gaming monitors? I'm trying to decide between the [Acer 27" Nitro Gaming Monitor Black QG271] (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/acer-27-ni…) for $247 from Officeworks or the Acer KG251QG 24.5" Full HD FreeSync 75Hz LED Gaming Monitor from Centre Com for $209.

Are they both basically the same screen?
