  • Its best to consult your GP. too much Vitamin D is not good for infant.

    • +1

Yup, definitely check with GP on your visits. We certainly do.

      • Thanks OP. Our first born sucked all the Vit D out of my wife. Second ones gonna do the same. Ob told us to get some too

        • +2

Hard to OD Vit-D3, toxicity is rare, unless you take crazy amounts.

There are clinical trials on right now to see if it protects against covid-19 / reduces bad outcomes (death). Plenty of evidence showing correlation, but not yet causation.

  • It is very common for children in Europe to be prescribed. Not in Australia to my knowledge. Probably she is from the UK (been doing it for donkeys years) or perhaps from Europe. Our friends from the UK recommended but our doctor said it is not required here unless or until they find that the child is deficient.

    • +1

Didn't know about Europe. We are from Asia and from what I've read darker skins are less receptive to Vit D from Sun. I'm definitely low on Vit D on my annual blood tests.

      • +1

Probably a lot lower than what you should be at. The current recommend levels are far too low.

Make sure your child actually needs this, check with an actual doctor. Midwife's like to "prescribe" these to newborns if they see they're a tad yellow and they automatically think jaundice. Once they do the blood test on the little one speak to the doctor if the child actually needs vit D supplament
