  • how much cheaper?

    • agl is 22.5 cent/kwh
      dodo is 19.03 cent/kwh for usage below 19.23 kwh/day

and they give me discount 10% for paying ontime

  • At least in Queensland, only AGL and a few other companies can rip you off, the other companies have to sell at a set rate.

I imagine this is the same case with Dodo, they are giving you the standard rate, and the only thing they are offering you is 10% off, something other companies do as well.

At least in QLD its possible but difficult to get the set rate with 15% off but its not something you can just call up and ask for.

    • I think we get 20% off our usage fees but we pay a monthly amount but get a quarterly bill. Only just started with them about 2 months ago so don't have a lot of experience just yet.

      • hi amelyn, do you get 20% off again from your bill? coz i have compare their rate already cheaper compare than other company

        • Usage. 270kwH @ $0.192 = $51.84

Pay on Time Discount (Usage), 20.00% of $57.02 (includes GST adjustment of $1.04) -$11.40
          Total Charges

Guess a lot depends on how much the usage rate is. VIC gets 20% off according to their website but I noted that NSW gets 10% off, but maybe your rates are already better?

        • sorry amelyn, i don't get it. where that 57.02 came from? as u said that your usage only $51.

        • $51.84 * 1.1 = $57.02
          20% discount = $11.40

        • omg, are u saying 51.84 + 10% gst = $57.02
          then you got 20% off - $11.40
          so your bill only 57.02 - 11.40 = $45.62 included gst?

        • Nonono … I skipped the part about the supply fee… but you don't get a discount on the supply fee, only the usage fee.

        • hi amelyn, just wondering, do you get bonus credit when you sign on with dodo? did u apply online or call their call centre?

        • No. Didn't get anything except the infinite rewards thing.

    • in nsw also got set rate, but dunno why this dodo standard rate is cheaper and they said they will give me 10% off on my bill if i paid on time

  • +5

Would hope they are nothing like Dodo Internet. Your electricity will be cutting out all the time, have periods of extreme slowness, billing problems and loads of technical issues, to which they will not answer calls!

    • hmm no slowness in the electricity mate, how can you control the speed of electricity? hahahaha

    • +3

      Wow, imagine that!

"Sorry guys, I can't turn on the computer today… not enough amperage. D:"

  • What kind of meter do you have? Smart meter readings are probably difficult to dispute (I don't know how) so some companies may overcharge to compensate for lower rates. What about the supply charge?

    • standard meter

    • standard meter

  • Been with Dodo Electricity for the last 3 or so months..all good to date!

  • any member in here interested switch to dodo electricity and get bonus credit on top of their lowest rate?

    • How do you do this? Contemplating going with dodo, unless Country Energy can better their rates (don't want to be in a contract).

      • Most companies will match the lowest usage rate but will not budge on the daily charge. Also they will not match the 10%/20% for paying on time, only the advertised rate.

      • nope. i have asked agl if they can match usage rate. the answer is no, what they can offer me is contract plan, example $300 discount for 3 years. which is still can't compete with dodo offer.

    • currently for nsw customer, they got 5% off for non contract and 10% off for contract 12 months and direct debit payment
i am still in discussion with with dodo, if i can get the referral credit and the customer that i refer also get bonus credit as well.

so far, i am saving $50 from my quarterly electricity bill with agl. just wondering only, how many member interested or may be no interest all from the member because of the dodo brand. thanks

      • I don't care about the brand - it still goes through the same energy provider. I noticed that with the 5% off the other day when I checked it out. Might be worth it also depending on what they offer for bonus credit.

        • that is another thing that i want to know from other member, how much bonus credit that attract them to move and sign 12 months contract to Dodo.

i have peak meter only and for the first daily usage 19kwh, around 1750kwh/quarter, their charge per kwh is 17.03cent included gst (after discount)
compare with my current provider agl which is 22.5 cent/kwh. so it is a big saving for me. and also their daily service fee much cheaper as well.

i have shopping around, but so far only dodo that offer me this cheap rate and short term contract. other normally asked me to sign 24 months to get 5-10% discount, with higher per kwh charges.

        • I have peak only too - but with a Controlled Load 1 for the hot water system. With the recent increases, my service charge is now 98.004 cents/day and the Controlled Load is 8.299 cents/day, however I can not find the price for the Controlled Load part on dodo's site! I know it's 88 cents/day from dodo for the normal service, but as for the Controlled Load part, who knows?!? Might have to give them a call.

        • there is option which part of your meter on dodo website

Do you know what type of meter you have?
Unsure - Standard Domestic non time of use metering
Standard Domestic non time of use metering
Standard Domestic with Peak, Shoulder and Off Peak metering
Standard Domestic Controlled Load 1 supply (6 hour availabilty)
Standard Domestic Controlled Load 2 supply (16 hour availabilty)

        • True, however this didn't show the individual cost for the controlled load component in cents/day when selected. only the normal service in cents/day.

      • joannatan, did you ask why VIC has 20% off and NSW & QLD only 10% when paying on time!?

        • nope. may be the nsw market is not open like in victoria. i have called company that provide free service for comparing the discount, when i told the guys about dodo offer, he said better you take that offer. one thing that i still don't understand the guys told me in nsw the electricity rate in nsw is regulated, mean everyone got the same rate. still can't understand why dodo can offer lower rate compare than other energy provider. for me even 10% still cheaper compare than other company that give higher discount.

  • I used to work in Sales and Marketing of Electricity; You cannot compare electricity prices interstate.

In Vic, electricity prices is insanely competetive, they all on long term contracts and their electricity companies gurantee the cheapest rate even with a pricematch system.

In Nsw, with my experience. Its significantly less competitive that Vic with higher prices. Generally AGL does not have the cheapest rates, tend to overcharge but it completely dependent on individual circumstances.

Also if youre on contract with AGL, termination fees apply, which discourage many people from the change.

  • 5% discount is common.
    10% is better.
20% is extremely rare, ive seen thousands of bills and only a few 20% in NSW.

Usually 20% is for the workers of Energy Australia , ive seen an Origin 20% though.

Also dependent on your location, since different companies are licensed for different areas
(Ie, western suburbs are provided by Integral vs eastern suburbs provided by energy australia)

  • ok guys, i need to know how many people interested with this offer? so i can talk with dodo reps. i need the number guys. thanks

    • I am as long as there is no contract.

      • 5% only for non contract and 10% for 12 months contract in nsw and qld. anyone else? i need the number guys.

  • +1

    Hi,

I got a 20% discount on my Dodo electricity account in Victoria on a 12 months contract.

They did increase their kw rates soon after I signed up but was still the cheapest deal after discount compared to anyone else.

I even rang up a few of those comparison services online and they couldn't do better.

They do charge you $1 per transaction for direct deposit, and you only get the 20% discount if you use the direct deposit payment (well so long you pay on time). So you still win at the end.

I can't fault them so far. We'll see how they go later in the year… and whether they can keep up the discount next year :)

    Cheers

  • I wanted to switch tariffs from ANYTIME rates to PEAK/OFF-PEAK today. First the 'customer service' guy told me that I had signed a contract locked to the ANYTIME rate. Yes, I signed a contract with the retailer for 12 months, there was nothing about which tariff rate. Asked him to quote the section of the contract as he was BS-ing me, he could not find anything. Treated me with disrespect, and ended up with a finishing argument as 'you just can't'. Had to threaten him with a request for the Ombudsmans details before being passed onto his supervisor.

His supervisor was better (at least she was more polite). She asked me whether I had switched within the past 12 months (No), asked me why the switch (cheaper bill, duh!) and confirmed I had a meter capable of recording peak/off peak (Have a VIC Smartmeter). Said she had to check with the distributor - in my case, United Energy. OK, 7 approx. hours later, she leaves a message on my voicemail, saying that the distributor United Energy no longer offers peak/off-peak. However, they DO offer Interval Time which measures peak/shoulder/off-peak, however that would be more expensive.

Do they think I'm stupid? They can calculate 3 segments (peak/shoulder/off-peak) but not 2 segments peak/off-peak? I just went to United Energy's energy easy website and the smartmeters record electricity use at 30 min intervals so how is measurement not possible?

Plus the peak/off-peak is on Dodo's standing offer site below (Don't think they can refuse a gazetted standing offer?)
    http://www.gazette.vic.gov.au/gazette/Gazettes2012/GG2012S04…

Complete BS. Lesson: If your retailer is playing you, remember distributors have tariff reassignment forms and you can directly communicate with them.

Consumer beware! Hope this helps anyone looking for advice.
