Hmm What Build for Sims?

My girlfriend is wanting to upgrade from her old laptop to a new computer for Sims 4 because the laptop is struggling to load all the extra “mods” and things she’s collected over time (there is quite a lot, so I’m assuming we need a bit of ram and more focused on the cpu then gpu)

I was just gonna go have safe bet and run a tech fast build because I’m not completely sure how much should even be spent on this.

Was going to get a monitor of gumtree, and a keyboard from big w. So no biggie in that department.

why have WooHoo in sims when you can have one in your home

The custom content will invalidate the min specs since they're often higher texture and larger polygon count than base content

  • I think realistically any TF build will handle Sims 4 even with mods. Suggest working out what your budget is and then just see what they've got going in that general price range.

A cheap solution would be an SFF desktop (with an i5 and 8GB RAM) + SSD + GT1030
    Example:
    Lenovo Thinkcentre M93P $159
    Crucial MX500 SSD 250GB $58 or 500GB $89
    MSI GT1030 $119

Other popular SSF desktops are the Dell Optiplex 9010 or 9020

    • or may be used GT1050, got my GTX1060 3GB for around $125 back then

      • You'll need a low profile graphics card so if you can find a second hand GTX1050 then that'll be better than the GT1030

You can run Sims on a Vega 8 integrated GPU. Basically any APU like Ryzen 3 3200G or Ryzen 3400G should do the trick. If your mods start getting too complicated you can throw in a dedicated graphics card down the line

Just note that Ryzen likes fast RAM, and TechFast generally likes to bundle some slow-arse 2666mhz RAM in single channel configs on many of their builds. It's a good idea to upgrade the RAM (yourself) to 3200mhz dual channel otherwise the GPU performance isn't going to be great.

My wife had the same issue. I swapped the HDD for an SSD and added more RAM; her 4 year old laptop had no issues with Sims4 after that at all — load screen went from minutes to mere seconds.Runs on 'high' settings.

edit: point being — try a cheap upgrade first?

    • I'll see if i can change those on her laptop! Thanks mate

    🤦‍♂️

  • Sims 4 runs well on lower spec machines. Better than Sims 3 did. Basically anything recent you buy will play it just fine as long as it isn’t complete garbage. You should really be thinking what else you want to use the computer for, are there any graphically demanding games you might want to play? The new MS Flight Sim maybe? Then you might need even more power than just anything sold today. Also a higher quality display might better the experience for her.
