A very good frying pan for your pancakes. I got one of these on a previous deal and very happy with it.

    • I missed out from last deal, what options do i have?

    • Fair point. I got it slightly cheaper for $24.16 about a year ago, but the price now is still not bad!

  • I'm actually looking at some new frying pans (20/26cm), cast iron is generally regarded as the best, long lasting option. Are the non-stick properties fine for oil-free cooking?

Robins also has an extra 20% afterpay sale, was thinking those bacarrat hard anodised pans maybe good, or something similar? Amazon has that fresh Australian kitchen brand too.

    Cheers,

    • cast iron approaches non stick, but still needs oil or butter, as you will see on the videos.
that said stainless is also low stick if used properly and there are lots of videos on your tube.
i do my pancakes in a carbon steel pan, i use butter and like the taste so no issues.

      • Thanks for the info, don't use those to cook with but at most got some spray oil (which no manufacturers recommend using), so I suppose stainless steel be best if cooking with a bit of water?

Hard anodised i thought may be a good compromise for price, just didn't want to spend a day researching it.

    • For eggs and pancakes you would still need a layer of oil. For stir-fry I use just enough oil for the garlic and onion, then deglaze while scraping the bottom with metal spatula. Gives a nice fond and makes cleaning up easy.

You want the best in the market that has a multi lifetime warranty and want to avoid supporting any other country other than Oz? Then look no further than solidteknics. They have a wrought iron range as well as a Noni range that are a league of their own. It will be the last pans you will ever need.

      • Geez those look nice

      • Yeah I have 3 pans from solidteknics, they are great. But not cheap. My first two are cast iron but latest is raw iron. They seem to have abandoned cast iron which is sad. They will last forever. Scratch and bang them around. I rarely user soap to clean them though because that removes oil layers and they start to rust. Sandee with my wok.

They have something similar to this Lodge for literally 5x the price:

Have this same griddle, love it, perfect for pancakes, omelettes etc.

    • I second this

  • Is it shipped from the States? Surely a heavy item this would cost more in postage than the price it costs?

    • Amazon would bulk ship/post so would have lower costs

  • Aldi has cast iron pans in next weeks catalogue. $15

I don't like the ones with metal handles though. I prefer wood, or possibly plastic

    • I have an Aldi pan with a wooden handle from a deal a few years back. It's good for what it is and I like it, but the quality is different and the surface is not as even.
I also checked the last year's Aldi cast iron pans and didn't like the quality, it had too rough finish.

I used 600 grit sand paper and a light scrub to get off the little bumps. Seasoned it with linseed oil and it's soooo smooth!

Probably also good for Indian flat bread.

  • I bought a similar shaped pan in korea for under $20. i use it all the time. one of the best coatings too. very good for flour tortillas

Before anyone gets too excited, this pan has shallow walls. I have one from the previous deal, it's incredibly good for pancakes/pita/roti type of cooking but can't replace your normal frypans.
