Balance Transfer Credit Card Suggestions

Hi guys

Looking to apply a credit card with balance transfer option but wanting to hear some experiences from people here.

Has anyone recently done a balance transfer and successfully got it?

I applied one in 2015 and got it easily (paid off as well) but I am sure things have changed a lot since then, for example; BT establishment fee was not popular back then.

At the moment Skye Mastercard is offering 0% for 25 months and Virgin money 0% for 12 months, there are plenty others but with a balance transfer establishment fees of 1-1.5%.

Are there any alternatives to balance transfer in the market?

Thanks guys, looking forward to read your experiences.

Cheers

  • My suggestion is to avoid Virgin Money. I had nothing but bad experiences despite excellent Credit Score. My request for review was unanswered and pretty much no communication.

Actually, be careful if it is managed by Citibank.

Skye Mastercard is interesting but not many is known about it. By the way, where do you see Skye at 25 months 0% BT?

    • You do realise your "credit score" has zero impact on whether a lender will approve you for credit.
The scores are a "made up" number to get you to check them regularly so you can be marketed too and make the reporting agencies money for on selling your info and them getting a commission when you sign up.

every lender has their own criteria for approval of credit and in almost every single case (bar maybe a very small minority) your credit score does not not even get looked at. Your score maybe included on your report when provided to the lender but the lender almost never considers this number in their process. They use their own criteria to determine whether to approve you.

      • Then the spruik of having good Credit Score is quite useless for consumers. Bugger.

        • there is a reson why checking your score is heavily advertised and is Free to you
They are making a killing in commissions from on selling your info/your approved applications

I know where i used to work had our our own "score" we used to determine lending approvals.
The number we got was almost always lower than the credit score on the top of the credit check report supplied.

          • @jimbobaus: Where I work, if your score is under 700 you're going to be subject to some extra investigation, and under 500 is an instant decline.

    • here is the skye mastercard deal

      • Thanks man. First time I saw Skye is at the FLight Centre Expo and never heard of it before so I thought its the credit card for flyers.

  • Literally just applied for this one earlier today… I'm already with them, which was part of the reasoning, and 22 months on the vertigo will be more than enough time for me:

    • great one, thanks.

The vertigo card doesnt say minimum limit and income… are you able to say how much was your card approved for? Did they balance transfer the full 80%? who was your previous card provider?

      thank you

  • are there any promo codes for 0% b/t and 0 bt fee for existing customers at any banks nowdays?

    • +1

Westpac used to have the bt option on the internet banking but they've now disabled it while they're working on new deal for bt on existing cards. There's a promo code that is still working but 6.99% 12 months but can't use it atm given the option is not available.

NAB has 0% 6 months 2% bt fee, no promo code required. Just do that via their phone banking app.

ANZ has 0% 12 months 2% bt fee last year, no promo code required but you have to give them a call and inquire.

Best thing to do is call the bank and ask for it.

  • whats the name of the new bnpl 0% credit card on 7 news tonight? hope its not the breeze.

  • Ive had a similar experience to you with signing up to a balance transfer card earlier in 2018 and paid it all off. I applied for another one with St George vertigo card since my bad spending habits kicked in for a bit and was given a smaller amount (about 40~%) than what I had requested. I went into the branch to ask why and found out that they're more stringent since I did not have an account with them prior

Edit: I used finder.com.au to compare which one would be cheaper and went for it. Sometimes the BT is lower than annual so you have to do some calculations to work out which one would be cheaper for you.
