Thats All She Wrote for STA Travel

Another one bites the dust….unsurprising though. Used to see a few of their stores, never booked anything.

I wonder how many people were holding credits for cancelled travel. Could be ugly.

I for one will probably never book anything through a travel agency ever again, no matter how big they are.

Sad news. I won a return trip for two to the UK in one of their competitions posted here back in 2014. Forever grateful.

They had good deals for students and around the world type of flights. Unfortunately expect a lot of travel related businesses to go under given COVID19

    Awesome,
Yesterday was the day I was told I was due to be getting our $6500 back from a cancelled Alaskan cruise after waiting the 120 days they said they needed.

    • Now that sucks. I hope you still get your refund through.

  • Pretty sure STA is a subsidiary or whatever of Flight Centre. A few years ago when I was a student I went and got a quote from Flight Centre and it was pretty high, then I walked into STA Travel for a quote too. After I'd given him my details he asked me if I'd gotten a quote from anywhere else and I said no. In any case the STA quote was a lot cheaper so I ended up going with them given my trip was basically a multi-stop trip including a tour. It was when I looked at the terms and conditions that I saw that STA Travel was owned by Flight Centre and realised the dude probably saw my quote that I got from the Flight Centre.

    • I thought they were owned by Flight Centre too, but I think their subsidiary is Student Flights, which I know is a play on words, but it is a different company with very different branding…

      • I think you're right. Maybe we both got confused with STA travel and Student Flights. If that's the case, my story is about Flight Centre and Student Flights, but I know I also got a quote from STA Travel because they had a store in my uni campus. I found them expensive too I think.

        • Yes, every time I got quotes from STA and Student Flights, they were always expensive…

I found the best way was to do the research myself and then go to Flight Centre and get them to price match or even beat the fares and book with them.

That way, you get some coverage or someone to call, if something went wrong….
