(Victoria COVID Related) Telstra Appointment at Second House - Allowed to Go?

In the process of moving house (slowly as I'm working full time)

We have a Telstra appointment to install a landline at our second house that we recently built, and need to be there (someone 18+ needs to be there on the day).

Are the police going to have an issue with this? The house is approx 100km away from where we're living at the moment, and I will need to go through a checkpoint.

Have got a rates notice and Telstra appointment confirmation that states someone 18+ needs to be present. Telecommunications is considered essential, right?

  • No. This is not an emergency situation for you or one of the 4 essential items to go outside the house. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/stage-4-restrictions-summary-cov…

Please try and reschedule connection after lockdown. The installer shouldn't even be going to site. Also it is way over the 5km limit.

    • Thanks for the link to that site, I've had a read through it.

Interesting… surely telecommunications are considered essential? It appears that an internet connection is:

What is considered an emergency repair for a tradesperson to visit?

Emergency repairs are urgent repairs, which must be undertaken to keep members of the household safe, to prevent members of the household from injury, to prevent property damage or damage to goods, or for urgent repair to an essential service (for example a water connection or internet service).

That other house is not your current residence at the moment of lockdown. You can get emergency things done to your current house you are living in. It's like they are stopping ppl from going out of the metro area. At the end of the day you can try and get past the borders, but be aware you may get fined or just turned around. There is no rule for everything. If you can delay it do so. The less movement we can all do the more likely we can get out of this hell hole we are put under.

        • No worries, thanks for your advice.

  • Did you arrange this before the lockdown? Will you be completely moved in before lockdown is over?

      1. No, we didn't think the hosue was going to be finished, but it is now.
      2. Unsure, work is really busy for me, I do what I can, when I can.

I believe the rules state you can't move unless it was arranged before the lockdown.
