Sound Blaster X3 - sidetone

Hi all,

I recently bought the Sound Blaster X3, it is a brilliant little unit and very happy with it except I cannot seem to get the sidetone working.

I have it connected to my PC and in my Sound Blaster Command software I have double checked "Mic monitoring Volume" is maxed out and not muted.

But when I talk in games I cannot hear my own voice.

Sorry, I have never used mic monitoring (sidetone) before, so maybe I am doing something wrong.

Is there also maybe something I need to set up in Windows settings?

UPDATE: Its working now after muting and un-muting some settings.

  • Did you change your mic input on Windows to X3?

    • yes, x3 mic is selected in Windows settings and my mic is plugged into the X3 mic port.

Please note that the mic works i.e. people can hear me fine, its just the sidetone that does not work (i.e. I cannot hear myself talk).

Ohhh sidetone, okay I’ll have to test it myself when I get back. Meanwhile, someone could probably answer your question.

Ok, sorry its working now. I had to mute some things and un-mute for it to suddenly work.

Ok haha I was jsut about to tell you to unmute you mic in the mixer setting via the app. All good

  • Completely off topic, but reading name sound blaster reminded of the good old days of installing games in DOS. I was always envious of anyone who had sound blaster or adlib sound cards whole I always had to select the povo PC speaker option.

    • ah yeah back in the days when soundcards were a thing (still are but not as essential as before)
