Recommendation for an IPS 1080p Monitor (Not Just Focused on High Refresh Rate Performance) for < $300

Hey everyone!

I'm looking at a 24" 1080 IPS monitor to tide me over for a couple of months before investing in a new GPU/1440p monitor combo.

I've been looking at the 24g2 as this seems to be the most recommended budget monitor in this category, however I've noticed is it seems absolutely every 'top recommended' monitor these days is judged on its high refresh rate performance and not alot of focus about the actual picture quality itself.

This will be used for Flight Simulator and looking at benchmarks I'll be hovering around the 30-40fps mark which shows Freesync and high refresh rates won't even apply. Is this indeed a good 'picture quality' monitor or is it exactly the same as $150-200 IPS 60-75hz monitors (e.g. 24g2e5, 24b1xh, various dells) except for the high refresh rate?

thanks.

Seems a pretty neat monitor to me. What city are you in?

…before investing in a new GPU/1440p monitor combo

Why don't you invest in that now and save the $300 or so that you intend to spend on a temporary monitor?

    • Or just buy the 1440p monitor and get the GPU later.

This looks like an useless errand.

      • Thanks everyone. I figured I could sell whatever monitor I buy and contribute to the newer 1440p later in the year during sales. Happy to cop the hit for a months enjoyment at the appropriate res.

In regards to the refresh rate, are the 144hz monitors better quality than their 60/75 counterparts or is it usually a similar quality in other aspects (i.e. you're just paying for the refresh rate)?

If you play FPS games. If you play RTS then doesn't make a difference. But you know some people swear they can see every Hz.

No simple rule of more Hz the better display. Best find something with quality reviews when purchasing. Personally got 2x $150 21.5" IPS 1080p displays. Cheaper than 24" and still the same resolution. I don't play FPS.
