Telstra Telephone Wall Socket Wiring

Not working at the moment, where would these wires go?

Pics

Had some work done and tradie left red wire hanging into the wall. Do they all go into the krone connector? Recall seeing black red and white blue as pairs.

    Nowhere. Not required. My phone line looks the same with extra wires poking out that go nowhere. I am pretty sure it just needs the two, as one is Tx and the other is Rx.

      Yeah, you only need two. The other are for emergency power, but these are for old handsets.

        Other pair is for a "second line" if you want one. Typically unused otherwise.

        • But it could also be used to carry power right, due to the colour code? My old workplace use to have a corded phone solely powered using the RJ11. There are even 'hacks' of people charging their mobile phone by attaching a micro USB to the red and black of the phone line.

            @No Username: No.
            Though the analog phone network did charge active pairs with DC voltage.
            That is the only power it can carry or it would be a dangerous code breach.

    Typically there are two pairs, blue and white being the primary pair used if you have a single phone number/line to your house. The second pair (black and red) are usually not connected unless you have a second line activated at your house.

  • Cool that's a relief as we don't have to open the wall again. Is the wiring on the krone right?

    • If you plug a phone or a modem in and it works, it's right.

    A standard phone wires to terminals 2 & 6 in the wall socket. The terminals are also usually numbered on the back of a wall plate if it has a RJ11 connector. It should be the blue and white but if the wiring has been worked on over time someone may have used the red and black.
    If it was a phone extension off a PABX some can use more than two wires. Commander system extensions were typically more than a single pair.

  • What NBN Technology do you have btw?

    • cable for a bit until it's disconnected in a month

      • I hope you get the home wiring sorted as it could affect your NBN FTTC / NBN FTTN connection
