Wireless Android Auto Headunit That Is Actually in Stock?

Firstly I guess i would be wanting to clarify does wireless android auto even work in Australia? I've heard it is limited to the US and maybe only some phones support it (pixel etc.).

Secondly, it would seem that all the headunits that I can find that apparently support wireless android auto are not in stock anywhere. Does anyone have a suggestion fo what is a good unit that can actually be found in Australia? I have space for a double din unit.

  • Go Aliexpress if you're happy to wait a while, have purchased a double din unit throught them a few years ago and it's held up well, i believe the newer ones have Android Auto.

    • Those units are completely different to proper "Android Auto". They are more like Android tablets mounted to the dashboard rather than a second screen and interface for your mobile phone. Those Chinese Android head units are alright in their own way, but I found them to be a bit buggy with certain apps, and lacking a bit on the quality control.

  • I installed the Kenwood DDX9019DABS in my wife's Outlander and it works with wireless Android Auto.

Not cheap but to can get it on special at Autobarn every now and again at 25-30% off. Might be able to find a clearance also as the DDX9020DABS had been released this year and it also does AA.

Works with a Samsung S10, not just pixels. Compatible with heaps of phones from memory.

    Downsides of this unit:
Digital Radio has poor reception as the aerial is dinky. Might be ok if you have a factory aerial which supports DAB or aftermarket.
Wireless AA well sometimes drop out going through a toll station (I think it kills the wifi).
Had install problems as well but related to the car not the head unit (Mitsubishi do some weird things like 6V(?!) reversing camera).
