How to Transfer Money to NZ Cheap or Free

Hi

I have a friend in New Zealand I'm wanting to give some assistance to during this time.

I've never done international transfers before. Wandering what are the cheapest (and easy) ways to transfer money to him?

Thanks

You can look into services like Transferwise

Just my personal review over the years. Ofx now, not the best rate now, but transfered over 30k aus, never a problem. Transferwise, transfered over 50k aus, never a problem. Currency fair, the best rate but transfered $100 aus. They always answered the phone but an absolute nightmare over $100 trial run, they blamed the bank and bank blamed them, who knows who's wrong. Just my 2 cents worth.

Transferwise for a once off I'd say

    • What about monthly transfers?

Depending on the value transferwise might still come out ahead.

Otherwise check ofx, afex, world first etc.

I use afex as I have weekly overseas payments. They let me hedge or just keep a stockpile and use as needed

      • My vote is with Transferwise, I use them frequently - best rates I've found for international transfers.

Check the ozbargain pages for each as there can be codes or referral deals.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/transferwise.com
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/currencyfair.com
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/ofx.com

I've used all three successfully. At different times each has had the best rate, or a good promotion on.
