Motorbike Mechanic / Castle Hill Area

Hi guys looking for a motorbike mechanic, bike has been in storage for a few years so its dead but also need a service and tune to get it road ready for registration.

Can anyone recommend a reliable and trust worthy motorbike mechanic that offers a pickup service (with a trailer) to collect / service etc.

I booked in one guy who I was refferred to and he never showed. I dont want to name and shame as thats not the point of this post.

If anyone can recommend or offer any valuable advice that would be great.

thanks for the help.

Castle Hill motorcycles or MotoHUB seems to get plenty of good reviews. Just ring them and ask them if they will come and get it. Most bike shops have a pickup service. If you were closer to me, I would happily have given you a hand to fix it up.

Out of curiosity, what make and model of bike is it?

    • I was eyeing these 2 out, haven't used them previously so wasn't sure what to expect.

      Duci 998

Wow, in that case, do not take it to them. You need to find someone a little more specalised in working on Ducati motorcycles. I would be looking at someone like Gowanloch or Duc-Pen.

Now it is a real shame you don't live closer. I predominantly work on Ducati motorcycles. I own 4 of them myself (in various states of repair) and do plenty of work on older bikes(1990's to 2010ish). The newer stuff I leave for the bigger places.

You will need to get the belts done and a good cleaning of the fuel system if it has been sitting for years. It's not going to be cheap, doesn't matter where you go. This era of bikes does not like to be just left sitting around unused. I recently had to restore a 749 that had sat for almost a decade, and even with my free labour, it still cost about $1,200 in parts and about 12 hours of labour.

        • oh wow, yeah I was expecting it to cost a little on the pricey side but I cant stand it just going to waste and with the weather warming up it would be perfect timing.

@eriklee: The 998 has the later Testastretta engine in it, so they are a lot easier to work on and a hell of a lot more reliable than the older Desmoquattro engines.

Yeah, I would like a 998, but I have a project 999 that I need to finish first. But yeah, definitely look at taking it to a specialist. The local guys at a Honda/Suzuki dealership will more probably end up making more issues than what they fix. The Ducati guys may be a bit more expensive, but its for a reason. You wouldn't take your Ferrari to a Hyundai dealer just to save a few bucks.

            • @pegaxs: I really appreciate all the info and the logical thinking behind it all - have looked up a few specialists and sent a request asking for quotes etc

hopefully, I won't have to suck some D to get some extra cash when it gets serviced.
