ALDI Steam Mop - Are Steam Mops Worth It?

Hi all,
Looks like next week Aldi's special buys will include a steam mop.
What do you think about it?

Do you use a steam mop and like it? Why?
Where do you get replacements cleaning pads?
How often do you need to change the cleaning pads?
Anything else you think someone needs to know before buying one?

Thanks in advanced for your advice!

I use a Kmart steam mop, find it better than using a regular mop, but that's just me.

My Kmart steam mop (and the Aldi one linked) use microfibre pads - when you're done, just throw them in the washing machine (using the appropriate settings).
If you care for them properly, they should last pretty much as long as the appliance does.

    • How long did your mop last you?
Thanks for letting me know about the K-mart steam mop, might be a good alternative instead of lining up at Aldi.

    • eh. it's cheap to get replacement pads.

    • My Kmart steam mop is on its 3rd year with no issues at all. I prefer it to normally mopping (my house is nearly all tiles) as it doesnt leave streaks and dries much quicker! You do need to go over some spills, or let the mop sit on them for a while, but still much easier and quicker than old fashioned mopping.

Ditto Wickz comment except I'm at 2 years. It's been great except the handle slides down slowly as you use it now, so I wedged a rubber band in the gap to stop it. Given how cheap it was ($30-$50?) it's amazing and I wouldn't go back to a normal mop.

  • I have had a few over the years. They're awesome while they last, and they usually don't last that long. Really good to use though.

    • How long did yours last?

  • Worth trying and if you don't like it, sell it second hand for like $30-50.

    • Good advice

    • who is going to buy second hand for literally the price of brand new?

Basically no one if Aldi has enough stock for each sale and if the sale happens frequently, but they don't. Depends on the product really, but this may be one of the item that can be sold at the purchase price in used condition.

That's how I justify 'buy now think later'.

    • Or if you really don't like it, make use of their 60-day returns policy?

While not the same, I saw that Bissell do a money back guarantee on their machines

  • Can you even get Aldi special buys at the moment? I know they are still putting out the catalogue each week, but every time I've been to my local lately the specials aisles are slim pickings, barely anything at all.

    • It depends on the store. The one near me is always missing stock where the one a few suburbs over which has more people and a larger shopping centre has everything. I'd assume aldi can't get enough stock for their sales so they prioritise their larger stores.

  • i use one on our timber floor, its a few years old, not sure where i got it from

  • I have a Karcher steam mop. It basically has a clip where we can slip anything to it for a wipe; therefore we just use the microfiber towels and throw them into the laundry after every use. I have a feeling that Aldi one is pretty much the same where if you want to save on official pads, you can probably get generic microfiber and clip it on or cut it to shape (I don't know how it works but basically as long as it's secure then you can save a lot using microfiber towels).

  • I bought A Kogan "10 in 1" 3 years ago, think after price protection it came to $59. Still going strong, I use it weekly to steam the foam tiles I have in baby's area instead of using sprays and stuff. Also use the garment attachment to steam clean her soft toys once in a while, very happy with it. Will try the other attachments when I feel motivated enough to do a deep clean. Never change the pads, I just chuck it in the wash after every use.
