Awesome thanks. Always look at the free Udemy posts for music production classes, never seem to be any on the other free lists.

  • Thanks OP.

  • I've always dreamed of making a song (trip hop, acid jazz, downtempo) like this. What can someone recommend as a good and cheap/free place to start?

FL Studio does a free trial, you can try that out? If you're a beginner and want something with an easy learning curve but can do some detailed stuff, I'd try out the iMaschine app (on iOS only, $14.99 but worth it). If you like it, you can graduate to a Maschine Mikro for ~$380 which you can make some really quality tracks with (I find the NI stuff most intuitive for beginners). Then you'll have the bug, and want to buy a Maschine MK3 or Studio and really get into it. Of course there is a whole lot of different hardware and software, it really is a rabbit hole.

My other advice is avoid some of the crappy freeware out there, usually have steep learning curves which can really turn off beginners.

    • Reaper is the best free DAW by miles

    • Ableton has 90 day trial

    • I had a look at this LMMS product a couple of months back. I found a series of youtube videos on how to install and use it, the first one is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBXSN_ZGi3o (not a Rickroll, I promise).

  • Switch to Ableton

  • Sosig

  • If you want great music, music theory, if you want great music add all key notes, and lastly if you want great music automation everything

  • Make sure you post "OZbargain type beat" when you finish the course.

  • Cheers!
