Free nbn Upgrade from 12 to 25 Mbps if You Ask - TPG

TPG do not advertise this but if you have a $59.99 12 Mbps NBN unlimited data bundle, they will upgrade it to 25 Mbps for no charge. I cannot guarantee that they will do this for all locations but I have had two Adelaide and one Canberra service done. I was first offered it when I was talking with them about something else and they said that as a "loyal customer" I was entitled to the speed increase for my home service. I rang back later to ask for the upgrade at the other locations and although they were a bit reticent, once I told them that my home service had been upgraded it wasn't a problem.

The whole loyal customer thing is a ploy to make it sound like they're doing you a favour, this was legislated in July this year that legally they have to provide you with 25mb/s. If they were providing less than they may have been contravening this.

    • Thanks. Wasn't aware of that.

      • Hope it helps :)

Doesn't the legislation just mean that your line must be capable of achieving a minimum of 25mbit, regardless of whether you wish to pay for a 25mbit + plan?

      • You are correct in that the line must be able to achieve 25mb/s, didn't quite realise that, so the OP is right in that TPG was doing him a favour. However i feel $59 a month is in line with other 25mb/s plans.

        • unlimited

  • I got offered the same from TPG (12 to 25) after having email issues over a cpl of mths and complaining a lot along the way about their poor levels of customers service. Felt gd when they offered it to me, now not so much

How many year to become loyal?

How to you ask? Just ask can I have a upgrade for free?

    • I wouldn't be concerned about "loyalty". Just call them and ask to be upgraded because you know that other people have been. TPG doesn't offer 25 Mbps as a regular option so it's not like you are asking for a discount.

      • just call and whinge about recently unstable internet speed, upgraded to 25mbps.

any loyalty offer for NBN 50?

  • Can confirm this works.. all i had to do was ask.. cheers op

  • Why would anyone pay tpg $60 for 12/1 plan in the first place? But good to know as it might be worth asking for 25/5 from the start and signing up only if they agree.

      $$$

No everyone needs fast Internet for the sake of having it. It is the cheapest plan with is unlimited data.

If you are doing just normal web browsing, youtube and not watch 4K or streaming Netflix on 4K it's fine.

      • If all you’re doing is web browsing and SD youtube then you will hardly (if ever) use more than 300 gig a month. Getting 25/5 speed and 500 gig data is the go for light users especially when it can be had for the same price. That is my opinion at least.

  • Still works, just ask for it.

  • Thank OP, your the best.

Also reading Drakey's comment, sounds like the may do it by default in the future for all NBN 12Mbps services for all ISPs.

    Anyway enjoying the new speed.

Drakeys comment, as he admitted, is incorrect. ISP are not obliged to upgrade to 25.

      Drake just can’t read.

  • Just contacted them and there were no problems.

    Thanks OP!

  • They had to check with their manager, and said it is not something that they usually do, but after waiting quite a while on hold they were able to do it for me. Yay! Thanks for the heads up.

I called them up and they said they've been sending letters to "loyal" customers who have been with them for more than 5 years to offer them the free upgrade.
Can anyone who's received the offer please clarify how many years you've been with TPG?
    Thanks!
