ASUS FX506II-AL057T Vs. Lenovo Gaming IdeaPad 3

So I’m after a low to mid end gaming laptop and have come down to these 2. I know of the ASUS issues with the average screen and over heating issues. But I’ve also seen some great reviews. I’m not going to use it for heavy gaming. Maybe csgo for an hour or two a week and the kids might use it for roblox or some Vr games if desktop pc in use.

I’m not too familiar with Lenovo’s and their gaming range. What’s some of you ozb’ers advice/recommendations

I've heard the Asus has some heating issues, look into that. I have last years model and it's quite good, you could definitely do some heavy gaming if you want to.
I had an issue with one of the fans getting a bit noisy and needing replacement, but didn't affect operation other than being a little annoying.

Other than that, it feels pretty sturdy, and I've liked that it's easy to add extra ram and storage. The Lenovo doesn't look very good for upgradeability, if that matters to you.

The only thing I feel is missing is a usb-c port, for 2 external displays. But the new model fixes that, so all good

    • Wouldn’t really upgrade anything internally.

Main use would be for kids using it for home schooling during this lockdown for us in Melbourne.

      • Why a gaming laptop then?

        • Cos a “business” type
Laptop are generally similar prices have have no dedicated graphics.

I’ll use it every now and then to maybe ply cs and they might use it when they sleep over grandndpadents house to play Roblox / fortnite

  • The Asus is $1900 not $1500 and Lenovo don't seem to have the AMD version ideapad 3 in Australia

    • I can get that ASUS for $1500

      And

      Lenovo https://www.lenovo.com/au/en/laptops/ideapad/ideapad-3-serie…

      • Oh right! Have you considered the Lenovo Legion 5? It's pretty good price when on sale.

        • I did. But need one sooner rather than later. There’s an Acer someone posted just now that look alright too. But can’t find screen info

I go for the Asus over the Lenovo. Not a fan of the consumer grade Lenovo. ThinkPad or nothing.

I'd suggest looking at some of the deals available from Dell Factory Outlet: https://www.dell.com/en-au/outlet/shop/laptops-tablets/g-ser…

Or maybe even something from Metabox, they always have sales on: https://www.metabox.com.au/store/Gaming-Laptops

I personally ended up deciding between Dell and Metabox recently.
At the time, Metabox offered better value for what I wanted.
    I went for the 17" Alpha-X with i7/16Gb/256Gb/1660Ti/144Hz.
Plenty of upgrade options for SSD and ram. I've since added another 1Tb NVMe drive.
Can take 2x M.2 drives and a 2.5" and up to 64Gb ram.

    • Never heard of this meta box box. Looking at it now
