            • @noise36: Yeah, that's the same process i was describing, but using caddy rather than nginx. Looks like that ends up simplifying it quite a bit.

    • I tried Jellyfin as open source and privacy orientated is of interest to me. I did however have issues with content matching after only having a couple of TV series seen to Jellyfin.
Plex has always been great with automatically content matching. I was hoping for the same from Jellyfin.

      • Strange has been flawless for me for tv and movies

  • Tried explaining plex pass to my partner.
    “It doesn’t sound worth it”
    Yeah I guess you’re right :/

Wouldn’t mind some of the trivial plex pass features but don’t care for DVR so it’s hard to justify

The new 'skip intro' feature is great. Remote streaming and also saving offline to the desktop/mobile apps with progress sync is good too. Being able to share your server with friends/family in different households. If you have kids or guests the parental controls would be useful. They add new features from time to time.

IMO it's worth it at sub AUD$100 (see Brazil hack above) even if you won't use live TV or DVR.

Thanks for the input! Skip intro, bandwidth controls, and maybe download features are a bit attractive. Currently AFAIK you can still download from your own server's account, others simply can't without Pass. You can share the server over the internet/different households without paying for Plex Pass which I'm already doing and it's great.

Nanh, just wait for aud 99.99.

    • 9 year anniversary seems a good chance!

    • Yo just read up on reddit that if you pay via PayPal and set your billing country to Brazil the subscription cost drops to BRL366.66 ~AUD$97.62.
I have just tried this and it works so no need to wait for AUD 99.99 as this is cheaper if you do it this way.

  • Love Plex. But see no need for the Plex pass. DVR sounds great until you consider you also have to buy a tuner for your server, and there's nothing on free to air worth taping (especially that isnt already available on the catchup apps). Every other Plex pass feature seems like a gimmick to me.

A world of difference in PQ between FTA and catch-up.

After paying monthly for the last 3 years like an idiot I've finally gone to lifetime.

  • Thanking you.

  • Considering a Shield Pro. What’s a compatible TV tuner that will work with Plex and the Shield?

What’s the PQ like using this setup?

Been waiting years for this as I keep missing the previous deals on PLEX. Even though the post says the coupon is expired (29-Aug) it actually still works (thank god!). I used the trick that others did by paying via PayPal in Brazilian currency ($366.66 BRL) and with PayPal's exchange rate/fee it cost $97.62 AUD! Paying under $100 AUD for Plex is dam good. Thanks OP and everyone posting helpful comments!! Also I used an existing Plex account to apply the coupon code and it worked, didn't need to be a new Plex account.

    • If you’ve been waiting years it sounds like you really didn’t need it

      • haha well never fully utilised it until recently but for me the extra features are handy (whole family
usage). We all could only watch it on 1 TV. Now anyone can watch it as they see fit on their devices. Other option would of been to simply buy the 1 time $7.99 per device (like on each iPad for example). The FREE version is definitely good enough for most people. For me the main things in Plex Pass I like so far are:
        -Camera upload
        -4 iPads to stream on
-Parental control (yet to be setup properly and tested to see how good it actually is)
        -transcoding

  • So I got videostream already, would plex pass still offer anything more?

    • I have the same question. I use plex server on my nvidia shield pro, and access the media using a browser from my mobile devices.

Are there any significant benefits in having a subscription, apart from being able to use the plex app on Android and iOS rather than the browser?

      • There’s some small bonuses like extras (trailers, deleted scenes), better transcoding, skip intro button

To me, being able to use the app on my iPad was the biggest reason to get plex pass

Whether that’s worth it or not is up to you
