Port from Belong to Telstra/Boost for a Month - Best Options?

Currently with Belong (and no other issues with them), but I'm heading to the country for a couple weeks, where their coverage isn't quite as good as normal Telstra. Because of that, I'm looking to switch to a Boost (or Telstra) prepaid plan just for a month, and am wondering what the best way to do it is?

The $40/30GB sim for $20 looks perfect, but it mentions "15GB bonus data on first recharge" and only if first recharge is before 31st August..
if I'm only planning to use for a month and not actually recharge, do I not get that bonus data when I activate?

Also, does anyone know if I port out of Belong, will I lose my existing account, and have to create a new one when I port back? I'm planning to gift my data to my wife's account beforehand..

  • You get the 30gb by default as part of the plan.

Then when you recharge before the 31/08 you get an extra 15gb on top of what the base plan is.

*15GB bonus data on $30, $40, $50, $70: Customers who activate or swap to Boost Anytime Plus. First recharge by 31 August 2020. Remaining two recharges by 31 October 2020.

As you will not be recharging you wont get the extra 15gb.

So your data will be 30gb.

    • Thanks. They certainly make things confusing..

Customers who activate or swap to Boost Anytime Plus. First recharge by 31 August 2020.

…but then on their retail sim packaging (officeworks, coles, etc) it seems to say

      INCLUDES YOUR FIRST RECHARGE

so, activating with one of those $40 cards is not considered your first recharge? Does it just put your account into credit for that amount?

      • I would argue that you're right with the first recharge going by the retail packaging.

        • Telstra has a similar deal ($20 for $40/18GB+17GB bonus) with the same wording+dates - I'm going to ask them tomorrow how theirs works. And even better, if they can give me an eSim - then I don't even have to port out.

  • 15 GB is only on recharge before 31st . Not sure if porting out will delete your account , i didnt loose my optus account as it was registered via email address not via phone no .

    • hmm, I think I might just keep this as a separate sim then, and not port.. stick it in a spare phone..

  • Porting out will delete your account and forfeit your data. Happened to me.

Sounds like an opportunity to use your wife's referral code to get $20 each after a month with Telstra. Bargain
