I Am Planning to Get a Sony WH-1000XM4 but It Seems There Are Problems with Static/Crackling Noise

Hi guys,

I did some research before getting a Sony WH-1000XM4, and found static/crackling noise issue with this expensive headphone. Someone also recorded crackling noise and put it on youtube. The same issue can also be found from amazon users' comments. It seems many people here ordered this pair of headphone, so would you please let me know if any of you got the same problem with it?

This issue existed in the XM3s as well but given how hugely popular the Sony WH-1000s have been and how many have sold worldwide, these issues are statistically pretty insignificant.

My XM3s are still working well.

XM3's for me are still terrific, no need to upgrade.

I don't own XM3's so no need to upgrade

@knobbs: I got XM2s and have never tried XM3 or 4 so no need to upgrade

new products sometimes have issues but this one looks like it can be fixed using software(guessing) but as everyone has already said these are good gen of headphones.

Was around in the XM3 series as well, mine don't have them and many others don't. So luck of the draw.

It's hit and miss. I have issues with my headphones and Sony's aftersales can be really bad. So buyer beware.

    • After going through your post together with some on reddit posted there, I decided to stop thinking about buying WH-1000XM3/WH-1000XM4. It is not worth spending money on that bad hardware quality at all.

My XM3's purchased through Amazon had the issue almost immediately. I got lazy and didn't bother following up under warranty as it was intermittent. Seeing the recent feedback relating to sweat/moisture in the ear cup, it makes a lot of sense and correlates to my experience.

Sony support is great from xm3 so buy with confidence.

Own and love the XM3's , never had any static issue with them. Would def recommend the XM4's based on my experience if you have not previously owned a pair.

Addictedtoaudio.com.au have great support and no questions asked replacement for anything faulty.
