I was looking for some cookware with high quality in mind and fancy copper action, with not having a clutter of excess utensils.
This is the cheapest I could find it although it is the same price on eBay but sold the same store, Matchbox.
So, I found it here for $339 but I've never bought from them before.

Is there a cheaper alternative for a similar set? Preferably under $100?

  • +1

    Oops

I noticed you already posted a cheaper price from chefshat

  • Trying to rid of all our toxic stripped non stick cookware.

Came across the Kirkland Costco 10 piece which seem solid and heavy . Wonder if this is a better deal? Spec is wrong stating 2400C instead of 240C.
Also this deal on amazon says made in Italy? can this be verified ?.. cos Costco one had better set and it mentions product of the USA but made in China.

Both Pan bases look similar on picture except for handles.

For the conscientious cook/shopper, which set would you go for?

    ref. https://www.costco.com.au/Kitchen-Laundry-Appliances/Kitchen…

edit: actually the base are different between this and costco.

    • ah you picked up on that, everywhere I looked it had "Made in Italy" and they plaster that all over their official website, so I added it in.

    • The base on the Costco set is better as it goes the whole way up the sides of the pan vs this one which is just a disc on the base - less even heating

I have the Costco set and it's been pretty good

    • If you don't need that many pieces you can pickup the Sensuelle range in IKEA, very good quality but only 3 ply instead of 5 - no copper layer. But the aluminium layer goes to the side instead of just the bottom.

      • +1

This range is quite heavy though FYI

      • The Costco set should be fully clad too, with the copper and aluminium going up the sides.

5 vs 3 ply doesn't seem to add much apart from weight from what I gather.

        • Forgot to mention, the Costco set is actually only 6 pieces, the other 4 are the lids.

  • Chefs Hat is a reputable large bricks and mortar around the corner from where I live.
Lots of hospitality professionals go there.

  • My Esteele frying pan and sauce pan never leave my cooktop. I've used both multiple times per week for 4 years and they're still good as new. When necessary to get stubborn "stuck bits" off the bottom of the fry pan, Barkeeper's Friend does the job.

Be warned that the copper bottom sauce pan takes a while to heat up, so for a simple job like heating a tin of soup or tinned vegies, a cheap $10 non-copper-bottom sauce pan makes quicker work of it.

Edited to add: Note when buying this line that there seems to be "old Esteele" and "new Esteele"… the difference appears to be that old Esteele has a lifetime (or at least very long) warranty and the newer one has less. One year seems a HELL of a lot less for a $300 set of cookware. If that's really the warranty on the box, then I'm not sure this is that great a deal.

  • Oven Temperature: 2400C / 4750F

    Damn.
