Help Me Find a Monitor and Graphics Card

Hi!

I currently have a two monitors running off a crappy Nvidia Geforce 210 (1GB) graphics card, and was looking to add a third.

To do this, I have been told that I will need to add a graphics card that can support three displays.

Since I don't know very much about computer parts, I needed some help selecting a monitor (around 24 inches) and an affordable graphics card.

With so many monitors and graphics cards to choose from, and being unable to go check them out in person (stage four lockdown), it is a little confusing and overwhelming.

I intend to use the setup for working from home (no heavy graphics involved- just spreadsheets and walls of text), and university work (again, my course is not graphics/ design centred). I don't play any games either.

Thank you in advance :)

You can run a monitor from your motherboard if it supports it.

Check your mobo and see if it has a video output. Problem solved.

    • Just checked! It does have video output :) Will it be able to support three monitors at once though? Someone told me it might struggle.

I'm running two from my GPU and one from my Mobo at the moment and only use it for work. Never had issues.
Perhaps it depends how old your rig is. I've never thought about monitors slowing a computer down before.

Also for a 24" monitor, you can just grab something off the shelf at Officeworks or wait for a deal. I'd also suggest a second hand one since you don't really need anything special for spreadsheets. You can also search for the monitor(s) you have at the moment and grab another one of the same model just for aesthetics.

Just make sure the monitor you choose has the same cable type that your Mobo outputs, or simply grab an adapter.

Thank you very much! I made a few BIOS changes and am now running one monitor from GPU and the other from the mobo. This must mean it can support 2 from GPU. You saved me $100 :)

One thing you have to check is that your CPU has integrated graphics. My CPU doesn't, so my mobo's video output is dead in the water.

EDIT: Looks like it's not a problem for you! Keeping this up in case it helps others
