Third-Party Battery Replacement for Dyson V6 Animal?

Is anyone aware of any third party batteries for the v6 Dysons? Mine has recently kicked the bucket at 5 years of ownership and I'm just curious if anyone's bought one that's reliable. There's one on Amazon that I saved a few years ago as I knew I would eventually need one but some recent reviews have made me less confident for an otherwise well received replacement.

  • How much are Dyson charging?

    • Around $80 however they have no stock right now.

  • Yes, got one from eBay for my DC31. It was getting old and constantly cutting out. Costs me $37 and running with no issues so far.

  • Similar experience with @uncompressed. Mine is for a DC34. Been using it for exactly a year now and no complaints yet.

  • I bought an aftermarket one lasted 9 months. Dyson regularly put out of stock on their website. Just call them and they have reserved stock they use for warranty replacements which they will sell you.

  • I grabbed one off ebay 4 months ago for my v6 absolute. There were a few compatible ones that had much higher rating (i.e. the original battery is 2.1Ah and I went for a replacement with 4.8Ah). It was an easy process to install, however I had to pay special attention to the recharge port as it was approx 1mm out of alignment and the metal shielding for the port gave me a slight buzz if the meat of my fat hands pressed too hard into the handle :D

If you want to buy 3rd party also be aware that you need to check your existing battery, as there are 2 different styles for the v6 that can be ordered (most of the ebay listings when I ordered had some photos of the differences)

  • I got one from Amazon for my by, going ok for 3 months so far.

  • I bought a battery for my Dyson on eBay and it was listed as a 3400mAh battery. It failed a few months later after never really running for longer than about half the run time of the genuine one. I decided to pull it apart. What I found was that it only contained no name 1200mAh 18650 batteries.

The interesting thing is that they are now selling these with up to something like 4500mAh+and I don’t think that 4500mAh 18640 batteries even exist, let alone at a price point they sell these batteries for.

So, ignore the rating on the fake/after market batteries, as there is a really high possibility that they have misleading capacity markings on them.

  • Had 2 compatible batteries over the last 16 months, both from eBay. First one died after 6 months and only got a partial refund. Second one is at 10 month and already on the edge of dying. These were around $40. Consider the genuine one on Dyson.com.au is just double the price but my original battery ran for 3.5 years — I think I might get the genuine one next time.

    • Yep, I ended up buying a genuine one as they received more stock yesterday. It's definitely more pricey but if it's anything like my original battery, the 5 year lifespan (for my use) is well worth any potential headaches.
