A mate of mine was in the market for a PS3 and I was looking around. I saw though that he's better off getting the JB HIFI combo deal with the 320gb version that includes Battlefield 3 for $398 since that's the reason he's wanting the PS3 for.

Just a side note I have battlefield on both consoles now, and the 360 version is better, if battlefield was the only reason to get a console, would been cheaper to get 360 + BF3. I ended up having to buy both because some of my mates only have a ps3.
You can't simply just state one is better than the other. What makes the Xbox version so superior?
You can also get this deal plus Uncharted 3 for $349 (give or take, from memory) from EB. Both good deals.
