Laser Cutter and Engraving Recommendation

Hi all,

https://m.gearbest.com/laser-engraving-machine/pp_0098952727…

I see this product that seems having good reviews, though I know most product in Gearbest have good review anyway. So I don't really trust the review.

That's why I would like to check if anyone has that product and has some feedback to share.

Or please recommend laser cutter/engraving machine at similar price. Thanks.

  • I just watched their infomercials for that brand and it looks cool. I thought laser cutters cost a lot more than this? That's why I've never looked into it.

    • I think it comes to the power. The more powerful, the more expensive it is.

      • Power & Speed.

20W is nothing its for materials that burn easily.
I wouldn't say it could "cut" anything.

        • What about 3-5mm thick acrylic? Or paper, I kinda hate cutting paper on a vinyl cutter sticky mat. Or cardboard. Engraving tiles looks cool, I'm totally sold on everything in the infomercials except what I really need is to cut acrylic sheets into little flat objects.

          • +1

@AustriaBargain: We use a 40w CO2 gas laser with chiller and air assist and it just gets through 3mm acrylic running at 30mm/s.

These are suited to burning on wood/paper, that's about it. Yes you can do multiple passes over and over and over again until it cuts through but then you've lost accuracy and a heap of time. Not to mention the amount of smoke and that the laser light these put out is extremely dangerous to your eyes and I personally would not use any laser machine that didn't have enough shielding. You only have one pair of eyes.

            • @Bonsaichop: Damn, I don't need a wood burner. I suppose I'll just keep ordering from other suppliers who have these big cutters. I hate the lead time and postage time, but that's how it goes I guess.

  • If you want a locally designed and sold laser cutter/engraver, check out darklylabs.com which have come a long way with lots of community input.

Spare parts are available and plenty of help in setting up the machine.
