Amazon - My Address Is Blocked from Buying Blu Ray Discs Sold by Amazon UK Listed on Amazon AU

Hi distinguished Ozbargain members,
I'll stick to the point and keep this post short.

I shop on Amazon AU mostly for blu ray discs sold by Amazon UK (Plz don't question why I still consume physical entertainment. It's just what I like to do). Most of my collection is world cinema (Asian + Spanish), which Amazon AU doesn't have while Amazon US is overpriced and is Region A locked.

I placed at least 3 orders in the past month exclusively on items sold by Amazon UK listed on the AU site; and took advantage of free prime international shipping for orders above $49.

It all went wrong yesterday when my order was cancelled multiple times. Upon chatting with an agent, I learned my address is currently not eligible as a shipment destination. The agent advised I changed the address to the nearest post office; a request which is both unreasonable and irresponsible in my opinion.

Another agent said he had escalated my query and it would be resolved soon. Also, I would receive a confirmation email within 24 hours, after which my orders will be back to normal again.

Almost a day has passed. Still no words from Amazon and my latest order was still cancelled.

I find this issue both baffling and fascinating at the same time. I'm wondering if anyone stumbled upon such a situation before.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Did you (or someone at the same address) do anything to annoy Amazon, such as returning a very large number of items, or doing a chargeback ? If not, then the other possibility is that someone else committed some type of fraud with Amazon, and for whatever reason, used your home address as their address ? Or, maybe there is something different or odd about your address that triggered some system warning ?

    Regardless, your realistic options are:

    (1) Buy the item from somewhere else, such as eBay.
    (2) Try to see if you can change the address in some small way that will get the system to accept it, but still get it delivered by Australia Post. (e.g. Once, I changed my address to "Pst Office Bx" to have it accepted & successfully delivered to a P.O. Box.)
    (3) Set up a free Australia Post parcel locker, and try to see if Amazon will ship to the parcel locker.
    (4) Buy direct from Amazon UK by using a UK parcel forwarding service.
    (5) Spend a lot of time & effort following with Amazon, to try to get them to fix the system issue.

      Hi vikvance,
Thanks for your time and the long list of suggestion.
I tried switching to Parcel Collect so that I'd pick up the items at my local post office.
Amazon said delivery can't be made there.

My purchase is not urgent anyway.
By the time my account is fixed, the price of the movies I'd like to buy may have shot up. But that's okay.

I just find this supposedly technical glitch from Amazon rather odd and intriguing; and like to know if someone here has been in the same situation.

    Do other local addresses work?

Some items get region restricted and can't be sold outside a geographic region, I had that trouble with a few items off amazon.com

    • Hi idjces,
      Thanks for the advice.
I purchased from the Amazon Australia site. The items are listed on the Amazon UK front within Amazon AU.

I mostly buy blu ray discs of various world movies. Have done so all the time in the past with no problem until stumbling upon this bizarre issue yesterday.

As a former customer service rep, it is hard to resolve odd situations, and doubly so when customers ride you.

That said, did the Amazon rep who said your address was blocked say why?
Are other orders working, so it is just DVDs? Very odd.

    • Hi mskeggs,
I contacted Amazon again this morning. The new agent told me to wait for three business days. He said the delay was due to the current virus situation.
I didn't want to give him a hard time. Not his fault anyway.
He said this is a technical glitch which wouldn't happen again once fixed.

And yes, the items I'd like to buy are all blu ray discs.

  • Almost a day has passed

Can you be little more patient?

To be frank, I'm in no rush. Buying a few blu ray discs is not an urgent business.

The main purpose of this thread is to see if anyone was in the same situation before.

I noticed that a lot of items that were initially available when the amazon UK shop launched recently disappeared suddenly about a week ago. I had quite a few different items saved in my wishlist and the UK seller suddenly was gone as an option to purchase. Not sure if this could be related? These were mostly for vinyl records though

    • Could very well be related. Many movies in my wishlist also disappeared for a week. But most were back in since two days ago.
The only problem now is I'm not allowed to make any purchase.

Btw, I'm very new into shopping on Amazon. So the Amazon UK was only launched recently?
It definitely offers greater range than Amazon AU while significantly cheaper than Amazon US.

Yes it only launched in the past few weeks as far as I know.. it seemed like there were a lot of deals on ozbargain initially. Whether amazon realised items were too cheap and are altering prices? or it was just an error that they disappeared im not sure. I contacted amazon live chat after the items disappeared and they said they would let the products team know. A few days after that some of the items i was looking at re-appeared
