[VIC] Hitachi 40" (101cm) FHD LED LCD Smart TV $399 (or $389 via Phone Sale) Delivered @ The Good Guys

31

Hey all,

Was bored today and in the market for a 40" Branded Smart TV.

Found this deal through TGG who are offering FREE delivery in Victoria until Father's Day (Banner pops up for about 5 seconds then vanishes) when adding to cart, see example: https://imgur.com/a/SaSo1Tl (Free Standard Delivery Victoria Only)

Called TGG via 'Phone Sales' 1300 942 765 and said I was looking to buy this TV for my dad for Father's Day who's doing it tough due to COVID19.

The service support employee was understanding and said if payment could be made today, price could be reduced to $389 including delivery. YMMV.

Yes this is not the cheapest 40" TV, with the FFalcon at $349 https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/ffalcon-40-inches-sf1-fhd-sma… but was after a proper brand and the Hitachi seems solid from the specs.

Yes, the Hitachi's are no longer made solely in Japan with Turkish company Vestel being the owner. Vestel is a Turkish home and appliances manufacturing company consisting of 18 companies specialised in electronics, major appliances and information technology. Vestel's headquarters and production plant are located in Manisa, Turkey, while the company's parent conglomerate is the Istanbul based Zorlu Holding.

IMO a good deal for a 40" Branded Smart TV for under $400 including delivery.

  • With FFalcon being back by one of the largest LCD panel manufacturers in the world, I failed to see how they're not a 'proper brand'

They can't even spell Falcon for one…

Just saying that at these prices, you're scraping the bottom on the barrel and may as well buy a $50 cheaper TV from FFalcon. It could be possible that Vestel has sourced their panels from CSOT too, but at least you can be sure with FFalcon.

  • Just spend $200 extra and get a 4k 50 inch Philips TV. 1080p TVs are starting to look old now

Hitachi aren't LG Samsung Sony etc so not sure why $400 for a 40" 1080p is a good deal at all.
Could get a decent Kogan for less

Hitachi used to be a manufacturer of great TV's. But back in early 2000s they withdrew from the Aussie market. Now their badge is sold to the highest Chinese bidder to stick on their cheap budget tvs

      • Indeed….. Like Blaupunkt and JVC.

        • You did not just do that! That is a Blaupunkt! You owe me a Blaupunkt!

        • Only thing JVC kept in Australia was their projectors which are still highly rated and high quality. Sadly their TVs have met the same fate at Hitachi.

This isn't a bargain. Hitachi is a rent-a-brand these days. You can find 50" UHD 4K TVs for around this price without too much effort.

  • Post office are cheaper

Salesman was being a good salesman.

  • If you're not after a smart TV auspost have Thomson or soniq 40" for $199

  • Wonder how many sales TGG would generate for this old TV for just a $10 off. The salesman should be rewarded. Lol-

  • Ahh yes a rebranded branded TV good choice OP 🤦‍♂️

  • You can even get the 42" Hitachi at the same price as the 40" at TGG.
