decent price… However, I'm about to ditch Hills… Cats don't really need whole grain wheat and corn gluten meal..

    • Any recommendations on good quality, bang for buck cat food?

      • +2

cats are different so you will have to try yourseld. But generally grain free ones are better.

My little boy prefers Applaws it's all good, grain-free and reasonable price

Would avoid.. 2 of the 3 biggest % of ingredients are fillers.

Also corn has no nutritional value for animals.

Every ingredient listed after salt is less than 1%.

  • don't know why some ppl are against it. My cats are happy (physically and mentally) and they eat Hill's dry cat food. If it is so bad, wouldn't cat that eating these would be illed? Then company would go bankrupt already.

    • It's not that it kills the cat or anything, it's just that it's not the food that they would eat under ideal circumstances and nutritionally it's suboptimal. You want to be mixing dry grain-free cat food and wet whole meat food for an ideal diet.

The easiest way to describe it would be like eating McDonalds everyday. It won't kill you but ultimately it's not what your body needs for a long and healthy life.

I took the time to learn about pet food and found it very surprising how much garbage there is on the market. There is many shortcuts companies take to make a quick buck.

As always do your own research but here are a few helpful tips

      1. Corn is terrible for cats n dogs (usually contains parts that are not editable to humans. its a cheap filler.
      2. Alfalfa is also terrible and a cheap filler.
      3. Quality of meat is as follows: Meat > deboned Meat > meal meal > meat by product. The last one is the worst quality and contains little to no actual meat.
      4. All the ingredients after salt make up less than 1% of the feed.
      5. The ingredients listed on the packaging are in order of largest % at the start to the lowest % at the end. So if you have cheap fillers at the start of the list you know most of the food is made up of fillers and not meat.

      Hope that helps 🙂

      • The best thing about a cat eating healthy is the no poop odour and also pooping every 2-3 days or so.

Cats really aren't "designed" to consume carbs. Ideally you want to get grain-free cat food (I get the Costco stuff, but it's out there if you look for it). I guess for Hills this is a decent price though.

  • Recommendations??

My cats never eat healthy stuff when I buy it, they eat Felix and Fancy Feast!

    Errrr

    • I've got the same problem.

    • I would just look at the ingredients on the back and compare whats on offer.

Some brands will send you out a sample which may be a great way to test the waters without investing in a bag.

  • Currently using the Hills Hairball for our cats - any suggestions for a other good anti-hairball cat food?

    • And how do you tell any of the hills food is anti-hairball?
I just use plain egg yolk to help with hairball my cat loves it.
