Is StackSocial Actually a Scam?

Hi guys,
I am kinda new to this fourum and kinda still figuring out how to use it so not quiet sure if its the right place to post this topic.

so anyways, several months back i bought a life-time plan from stacksocial for degoo cloud storage. but later on i found out the cloud service is quiet slow.
i mailed to SC about it telling i am not happy with the service and i wanted to get my money back. THEY REFUSED. because all sales are final

in fact i had to buy a new laptop (thanks to obz i snagged a deal) to run it on my pc . i was using win 10 pro on an old laptop and as soon as tried to run it my pc would just hang. so i thought it was just the age of the pc for which i am having an issue so upgraded my laptop.

now i can upload but only 5000 files at a time (which is a pain in the a**)

but yesterday out of the blue i received a mail from degoo that i violated community guidelines telling i have uploaded copyrighted content. some audiobooks that i downloaded via torrent..

and as such my account will be terminated in two weeks. i am yet to send a mail to stacksocial asking them to refund me as there is no point if i have to upload my files and constantly be vigilant that those files are being policed…

so guys this is just a warning to all of you should u decide to buy their stupid service.

DONT BUY from DEGOO or STACKSOCIAL. NOT WORTH THE TIME NOR THE HEADACHE.

Thanks

They have zero knowledge of the files. I'm suspicious this email you were sent.

It could be that Degoo are engaged in some sort of suspicious behaviour.

    • I suspect they have a reasonable knowledge of the files. And happy to cancel someone's lifetime subscription via a breach of the terms and keep the money.

So you uploaded copyright material, get banned, whos fault is that exactly ? Stupidity is not a reason to get a refund, its not stack socials fault.

    • +3

Surely they could at least pay OP for the new laptop they had to buy to upload copyrighted content?

Stupidity is not a reason to get a refund

if the same files can stay afloat on youtube then how come a paid could service refuse to host it?? there are tons of copyright audio books on youtube and i hope you are aware of that and if so then you are stupid too not filing a case against them.

the bottomline is its not my audio books. i sold my a** to them and thats why I got f*** by them. thats the end of the story.

      • So youtube cant take copyrighted material fast enough so that makes it all right to use another service illegally ? you have a very warped sense of what justifies your actions.

Yeah okay, looking at other sites review, it is "supposed" to have a 256-bit AES encryption "zero knowledge" encryption option for users but I guess its a cop out so they can say you didn't activate the feature…

Also its an easier way to get money by kicking off people who have "illegal content" even if they have purchased rights to said content. Most people aren't going to take degoo to court over $100 and so it breezes by.

Probably not the best long term business strategy but a quick cash grab that can kill a companies review scores and reputation. Which makes me a bit nervous to leave any backup storage to said company that may have issues surviving as a company long term.

    • Most people aren't going to take degoo to court over $100 and so it breezes by.

      absolutely..

Stacksocial is just a marketplace like ebay and don't take any responsibility for what's sold. It's really a case of buyer beware, do your own research before purchasing.

5000 files at a time is a pain in the ass? What are you doing OP, just uploading tons of torrented files?

  • Blaming Stacksocial is like trying to say Woolworths is responsible for Ads on their Community Notice Board… lol

The concern I would have is why are they looking at people's private files??

There are FAR better services. This is the first time I get such a mail that my files are violating someone elses copyright. as for my understanding copyright material shouldnt used for commercial purpose which i am obviously not doing. true i downloaded via torrent which can be argued if legal or not but if such material can stay on youtube then how come they cannt stay on cloud platform??

      • You know how many videos get uploaded to YouTube every second??

Content creators have had videos removed, audio removed, copy striked etc.

        • -1

Content creators have had videos removed, audio removed, copy striked etc.

yes they do get strikes. i agree but there are tons and literally tons of copyright material on youtube. audio, video, movies, music you name it. and guess what many of them stay there for a prolonged period of time. i watch music ALL the time of youtube. surely none of the accounts BOUGHT those audio albums. did they?? they are making money by just uploading those music files and adsensing there channels. youtube is happy. user is happy. there is no BOT coming out of the blue to mess with it.. c'mon guys i am not the only one who uploaded copyright material in history for the first time.

as @MilkDrinker wrote above they know I am not taking them to court for 100 dollars they can get away with kicking my a**. thats the reason. it has nothing to do copyrite or any of those crap.. its just an excuse to compensate for their poor, piss poor service

          • @sam2216: So your argument is that because others got away with an offence (from a completely different platform) , you should be able too?

How dare stacksocial have higher standards??

            • @Ughhh:

So your argument is that because others got away with an offence (from a completely different platform) , you should be able too?

Thats not the point. I am not doing a business or making money. Do all the music files in your phone that you play all the time did you pay for it?? ALL of IT?? ALL THE TIME??

did you ever watched, listened anything that was someone else's intellectual property for FREE without paying?? EVER?? if so then you got away with it too.. Didn't you??

              My whole point is

              1. if you're making money then well yes you should be held responsible for "stealing" someone else's property w/o giving them merits
              2. youtube is a PLATFORM and NOT a publisher. so they shouldn't police which data should be on that platform. Degoo is a (PRIVATE) file storing platform. if i share my files to make money yes by my first argument that should be considered as violation. but I haven't done that. Its not there JOB to police who will publish/store what. Again, Degoo is a PLATFORM and NOT a publisher. edit: PLATFORM's Publishers job is to facilitate NOT to police. I hope you understand the difference.
  • Lol if this is a scam for OP just wait till an actual scam comes, it'll be a global conspiracy.

  • Lifetime cloud storage. Clearly legit.

Switch the something like Backblaze and fill your boots. Plus, they wont look at your files.
