JBL Link Portable Pre Used before I Purchased

Hi everyone I need your advice.

I purchased the JBL link portable from Big W when it was on sale a few weeks ago as a present and. Fast forward to yesterday when it was the birthday and upon opening and setting up it appeared it had already been opened and set up as it had been given the name of 'master bedroom' and it had a male voice which on all Google Assistant devices it is the female voice as standard. It also gave messages like please reconnect to wifi in the app when it hadn't even been connected to my home wifi yet.

For reference, I went on youtube to look at unboxings and set up videos of the device and it further showed that there were multiple factory protective stickers that were missing indicating that it had been used and in the videos, the device came up a standard name of 'JBL Link Portable' instead of 'master bedroom'.

A simple fix would be to exchange but they are out of stock all over Sydney so I'm unsure what my best option is to do as I this speaker is perfect for my needs..

*I bought the product with no knowledge of it being opened and at the standard sale price of $99.

  • Is there any fault other than it appears to have been setup and used?

    • Thanks for the reply:)

No there isn't any other noticeable fault but the only thing that crosses my mind is exactly why it was returned and cause of the 90 days return policy I'm unsure how long they would've used it for.

Another thing was how were they able to return an opened product on the terms of change of mind?

  • +1

Just return it stating the facts, that it was already registered to another person and network. Just tell them you believed you were purchasing a new item, but were given a returned to stock (used) or possibly defective item (warranty return). When you get the replacement, make sure you check the security seals before leaving the store.

  • Perhaps a display unit? Return it and tell them

  • I bought a brand new JBL Link Portable from Harvey (sorry, I know) a couple months ago. It was in brand new sealed JBL packaging. However when I went to set it up in the Google Home app, I found that it had been paired to some device called "CSR NFDN" something random, in March 2019…

I emailed Harvey Norman support and said is this brand new? They did "checks" and said yes it was new, and that that paired device is probably a factor setting (I call BS). Anyway after a bit of back and forth I just gave up.

The device itself is freaking awesome and I have been using it everyday. It is my Google Home speaker for when I want to cast stuff like Spotify, it is my Bluetooth speaker when I need that for my laptop/phone, and it also has AirPlay for my iPhone/Mac. It has everything I would want except for a 3.5mm input, but that's impossible on these devices lol.

Love it though. Sounds awesome too.

    • Thanks for that insight and yeah I totally agree it looks so good and it is everything I could want in a speaker!
