What Happened to The Ryobi Deals?

I'm about to make my first step into the cordless tool ecosystem (specifically garden tools). For the last couple of weeks I had been holding off in hope of some Ryobi deals as was the case in the lead up to fathers day last year. I understand they are only sold at Bunnings and not on special very often. I had looked into the EGO brand of tools, however they are not within my budget and would only be used for occasional home use. The Ozito on the other had sounded the best bet but the hedge trimmer doesn't cut thick enough wood for my hedges. That left Ryobi. I am not desperate for tools and can wait but for some reason their deals seems to have stopped. They only had a couple of power tools on sale this yr which were of no use to me. My question is, does anyone think we are likely to see more in coming weeks or should I bite the bullet and buy at regular price?

The only time Ryobi goes on sale is when they're running out a model that's about to be replaced with a new version. As you said, Bunnings is the only seller so they have no competition and therefore no reason to put it on sale.

    • I figured that, although for instance the hedge trimmer I am looking at is at least a couple of yrs old and was discounted one year after its release even though it wasn't actually replaced. Last yr saw a whole heap of Ryobi gear on sale. I don't know if its due to covid but not much at all this yr.

Ryobi cordless tools can be annoying as you could be waiting months or even years for a sale and the only thing that happens is they go up in price. Very occasionally there is a price drop on certain models.

    • Frustrating if you're in need of something. I'm not in any hurry but more or less decided on Ryobi. Makita, AEG, Dewalt etc might be better quality but I won't be using cordless tools heavily or commercially so can't justify the much higher price point for my needs. Unless Ozito bring out a more powerful hedge trimmer, Ryobi it is!

Bunnings exclusive. They only discount for a runout model.

Wish I’d bought a pole pruner a while back when it was on sale for about half price. By the time I decided, they were gone. Only hesitated because it was a kit with a small battery. If it had a large battery might have bought 2!

Since then every Bunnings trip includes a quick scout for runout stock in ryobi.

    • I have been doing the same thing - a quick scout of the aisles for runout or clearance Ryobi tools. Not much luck yet though. Only had a lawn mower and couple of power tools that I won't need. I am hoping for a pole pruner too, they would come in handy!

I don't recommend buying an exclusive brand if you're after bargains, there's no competition for them so they have no need to ever put them on sale. I just sold all my AEG tools and moved to DeWalt for this exact reason, tools are almost always RRP unless a new model is coming out.

I recall Ryobi tools were a lot cheaper on Amazon, prior to Amazon launching in Australia, however prices have gone up, or they don't ship to Australia.

  • @RoosterBooster: have you ended up buying the Ryobi tools? I have been thinking of the same and have been waiting for the boxing day deals and nothing came out. I am just tired of waiting and thinking to buy them now.
