Hisense 50S8 Vs TCL 50C715

Hi guys, I'm looking at buying a TV but I'm not sure which one to go with. They are both around $795 retail but the hisense is currently on special for $628. The main difference is the Hisense is an LED and the TCL is a QLED. Any help is appreciated thanks.

EDIT
Bought the TCL. Bit grainy and over blown at higher brightness but can probably be fixed in settings. UI is laggy.

  • Hisense is a better brand than TCL

    • QLED better than LED, no?

      • From reading on google yes, i guess OP needs to do a detailed comparison on the specifications of both models

      • Is it, though?

What is QLED? Honestly? It's a bit of an enigma. Literally QLED means – or we suppose it means – quantum dot light-emitting diode. … Technically speaking, Samsung's QLED TVs are not QLED at all, well, at least in the way that we understand the term. A 'proper' quantum light-emitting diode element emits its own light – the clue is in the name – whereas Samsung's latest TVs use a separate LCD backlight (and an edge-lit backlight, at that) just like any other LED-LCD TV. So where the QLED moniker comes from, we're not sure.

It doesn't look like either has any kind of zoned backlighting or anything. Hisense were offering it on their series 7, I thought it would be a standard feature by now.

Saw a forum on whirlpool discussing this Whirlpool discussion, Hisense 50S8 Vs TCL 50C715

As some of them said I would actually go into a store and check them out to compare and have a play around with it for a bit. A bit hard in Victoria ATM with lockdown but lockdown should ease in the next few months… fingers crossed numbers go down and we get out of this situation. From there make a decision after seeing the units in person but i guess you want to take advantage of any sales that are currently on.

They're both much the same brand wise, i'm privy to TCL however having had one for the last 3 years, great picture quality.

own this model 50C715, it is amazing ! ) managed to negotiate a little bit and purchased it for $730 at GoodGuys Chatswood couple of months ago

I saw them both at JB right before the lockdown - both very very similar to my eyes. For me the Android operating system is the deciding factor as there are some Apps I’d like to use. I’m waiting for the C715 to go sub-$700 again then I’ll snap it up. I missed the $675 sale at JB by a few days last time.

tcl no brainer, its qled (i know its not back lit) still better than hisense s8 which is basically an r6

Which one did you end up getting?

Ended up buying the TCL. It get's pretty grainy at high brightness but overall not a bad TV. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

      • Im getting flickering and color distortion on certain videos. Same TCL 50C715.

        Eg:

        1) Install Plex App, tune to IGN.

        2) This skyrim video on youtube : https://youtu.be/XKMnvLU-YeI ( apparently distortion is there for first 30s only so could be software issue)

Their T mate app also gave me the same problem when casting a video from the app to the TV.

Want to check if its a consistent problem, then probably firmware related. Otherwise its hardware and I will return it.

  • Better yet…

    • TCL 50C715 for $719 (or $669, if you're lucky) on eBay or Philips 50PUT6103/79 for $420 (or $399, if you play your (gift) cards right) at TGGC?
