Think and Grow Rich - Over 80 Million Copies Sold

This edition of Napoleon Hill's classic Think and Grow Rich is a reproduction of Napoleon Hill's personal copy of the first edition, the ONLY original version recommended by The Napoleon Hill Foundation, originally printed in March of 1937.

The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized and explained for the general public in this book.

In Think and Grow Rich, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles. This book will teach you the secrets that could bring you a fortune. It will show you not only what to do but how to do it. Once you learn and apply the simple, basic techniques revealed here, you will have mastered the secret of true and lasting success.

Money and material things are essential for freedom of body and mind, but there are some who will feel that the greatest of all riches can be evaluated only in terms of lasting friendships, loving family relationships, understanding between business associates, and introspective harmony which brings one true peace of mind! All who read, understand, and apply this philosophy will be better prepared to attract and enjoy these spiritual values.

BE PREPARED! When you expose yourself to the influence of this philosophy, you may experience a CHANGED LIFE which can help you negotiate your way through life with harmony and understanding and prepare you for the accumulation of abundant material riches.

      You already become rich

  • This is meant to be really good!

Did a lot of thinking, hardly any riching, still ozbargaining

  • +6

    TLDR:

    • Spend money on appreciating assets such as Eneloops.
    • Have your Eneloops "work for you" to make more Eneloops.
  • +1

Dammit, and I went and bought this book last month.
I think I’m doing the ‘grow rich’ part wrong.

  • +11

This guy was a massive piece of shit.

He's basically a scum conman who wrote a rubbish self help book.

I never realised just how shitty a human he was until I listened to this podcast:
    stitcher.com/podcast/how-stuff-works/behind-the-bastards/e/63040000

    great two part episode.
    very entertaining

    • Very unlikely he interviewed Andrew Carnegie.

Research has also shown that constantly visualising success can actually prime one for failure.

      • +1

What research? Because after a lifetime of coaching, if this is true, I have been REALLY steering ppl up the wrong tree!

        • I think you're mixing your semaphores.

          • @ozbjunkie: Hahaha. I had to google what a semaphore was. My sentence made total sense to me!

            • +1

@Sxio: It's mixing your metaphors. Steering wrong path. Barking wrong tree.

But I chose semaphore as at least one of us was (virtue) signalling. Could have been me. I'm abstaining from self-judgement.

        • Do a google search. Don't expect others to be doing the shit for you.

This was a significant best-seller in the self-help / motivation category about 25-30 years ago

Either a lot of people believed or a lot of lemmings were conned…

About Napoleon Hill I remember… He himself was a poor man. That would have been enough proof to disprove his whole philosophy. He became rich by selling the book, Think and Grow Rich. But it was not positive thinking that was making him rich – it was fools around the world who were purchasing the book, it was his work, his labor, his effort. But in the very beginning days, when his book came out, he used to stand in bookstores to persuade people to purchase the book.
And it happened that Henry Ford came in his latest model car and went into the bookshop to find something light to read. And Napoleon Hill did not want to miss this chance. He went forward with his book and he said, “A great book has just been published – you will be happy with it. And it is not only a book, it is a sure method of success.”
Henry Ford looked at the man and said, “Are you the writer of the book?”
Napoleon Hill said proudly, “Yes, I am the writer of the book.” And he can be proud: that book he has written is a piece of art. And to create a piece of art out of crap is real mastery.
Henry Ford, without touching the book, just asked one question, “Have you come in your own car or on the bus?” Napoleon Hill could not understand what he meant. He said, “Of course, I came on the bus”
Henry Ford said, “Look outside. That is my private car, and I am Henry Ford. You are befooling others; you don’t have even a private car and you write a book called Think and Grow Rich! And I have grown rich without thinking, so I don’t want to bother with it. You think and grow rich! – and when you grow rich then come to me. That will be the proof. The book is not the proof.”
And it is said that Napoleon Hill never could gather up the courage to meet this old man, Henry Ford, again, even though he became a little richer. But compared to Henry Ford he was always a poor man and was bound to remain a poor man, always. But Henry Ford’s logic was clear.

Oliver Hill aka Napoleon Hill was a piece o'shit, a drunkard, womanizer, ran into lots of debts, didn't paid this debts and even his own kin didn't want to be associated with him so not sure why the rest of the world wants to. He had no foundation to base his books on, no successful business, not successful career and definitely didn't even meet Andrew Carnegie even once. I'm glad one of his bitches conned him and his took his money haha. Karma!

    • The Dollop also did a good episode on him, I feel like the reason USA is screwed up is because of this guy's distorted thinking.

  • All your base are belong to us.

Literally a get rich quick scheme. Only reason I won't downvote is I don't want to get sin binned.

    • -1

did you read it before? otherwise please do not judge it. This book is a must read if you want to get out of the rat race.

      • -1

Some people judge without knowing anything , what a book , highly recommended 👏👏

        • +2

And tell me how many of your friends and family are now wealthy after reading this?

I don't need to read this book cover to cover to understand what it is, any more than I need to join a cult to understand what that is.

          • @syousef: none. because they didn't read it i suppose? however you were judging this book as a get rich quick scheme. i guess you must be more than 80yrs old now. ;)

            • @0031nek: None, because like all books of this kind, it's complete drivel.

The author is a horrible parent and human being for not allowing his deaf son to learn sign language, based on his messed up principles.

I'm sure you'll make a wonderful rich 80 year old. Some of us want to enjoy life before our bodies are broken.

              • -1

@syousef: it's not about what kind of parent he is, it's about what good messages and contents that we are able to absorb from any books that we've read. to me, this book was a good read (2nd edition) and was the 1st book that changed my mindset. and mindset is very important in changing into what we want becoming.

                • +1

@0031nek: The saying goes if you lie down with dogs you get fleas.

His mindset led him to be a terrible human being and parent. There is no "good" mindset that leads to that. I don't want to become that, and neither should you.

                  • @syousef: i didn't, i only told you that i'm out of the rat race, and i am a good father. and once a while in OzB hunting some bargains for some fun. ymmv.

      • Did it get you out? Srs question.

        • yes i did, srsly, and fortunately, 8yrs ago.

      • I don't need to read every get rich quick book, just like I don't need to debate with every flat earther, moon conspiracy theorist and anti-vaxxer. It's not a goal one can hope to achieve, and life is way too short.

Oh and the author who is a sad excuse of a human being that disallowed his deaf son from learning sign language can bite me!

Exactly how many of your friends and family who have read this are now well off?

      • Are you serious? A book, written to swindle people in the 30s, helped you get out of the rat race 8 years ago???

Dude. I don't believe you. If you got out it's because of what's inside you.

        • +1

yes, i am serious, and yes it did helped changing my mindset, or maybe like you said, it's because what's inside me (i honestly hope so) , however i am telling the truth that this book really triggered my thinking and perspective. coming for a damn poor family (only a dining table set in the whole house), this book was a good read for me. i read the 2nd edition of it. many many years ago.

          • @0031nek: What's your definition of being "out of the rat race"?

            • @[Deactivated]: don't have to worry going to work for money, money is working for me. however i am still working because i want to see my clients and friends, and maintain the brain working.

    • Step 1: Accept that being rich won't solve your problems
    • Step 2: Identify and solve your real problems
    • Step 3: Happiness

Should I write a self help book?

    • Are you jv's significant 'other'!?

    • Yes please write more. Also, please accept things for me, identify and solve my problems, so I can have that sweet sweet unearned happiness. The kind that warms one with all the satisfaction of gaining without work, and from somehow bettering one's life without ever having to try or change.

I feel so young again just writing that. Ahh, memories.

    • No. You made your points concisely. You need to spread each into 4-5 chapters and demonstrate your superiority to everyone else through personal anecdotes of application of your lofty principles. Only then can you fleece people.

    • Yes, that is Step 4
      Step 5- Get rich
Step 6- Accept that being rich is more depressing that just being happy.
Step 7- Buy things and pay people to keep me happy.
      Step 8 - Die.
