This book describes the basic principles of Buddhism. Much has been written about Buddhism and how to practice it. Readers will have no difficulty finding hundreds of books on the topic. This book simply focuses on the essence of Buddhism, as expressed in the Four Noble Truths and the Eight-fold Path.

Buddhism is not a religion as such; it does not propose an external God. It does not seek to replace a person's existing religious beliefs, only to supplement them. The Buddha, in all likelihood, would rather his followers describe themselves simply as Followers of The Way.

I prefer Fruit Ninja for my source of Zen.

  • Only 17,000 more free crap ebooks to go.
Can't wait to see these daily "deals"

Ahh yes, guru Dave, who on his University Bio page, markets how many confirmed eBook downloads he has. I'm pretty cynical, I reckon this is about pumping his readership numbers. The author is also a Senior IT lecturer.

A Buddhist walks up to a hot dog stand and says "Make me one with everything".

The Buddhist gives the guy working the hot dog stand a $20, and is handed a hot dog. The Buddhist says "what about my change?", and the vendor says "change comes only from within."

So where is the ozbargain anti-religion brigade this morning?

    • +3

Come on, they only turn out for Christian postings - you should know that.

    • Maybe others will enlighten me. But is Buddhism really a religion? They don't do much door knocking…

      • Only if your definition of a religion is 'a group that knocks on doors'……..

Some people object to the word 'religion' being used in reference to Buddhism but IMO that's just an emotional reaction based on the negative connotations that are assumed because our western cultural baggage and the abuses committed by some members other religions over the years. (Even Buddhists have engaged in some grubby behaviours over the years though so who knows?). It's just semantics to me though. :)

Though I suggest if a Buddhist gets upset over the use of that word then they haven't really understood Buddhism either. :)

        • Maybe it's not an emotional reaction. Maybe it's a cognitive process.

      • perhaps other religions care about other peoples eternal destiny, while buddhists have let go of that in their own pursuit of nirvana?
