Unable to Load Cards into Google Pay

Picked up a Xiaomi Mi9t for the bride from Gearbest to replace her iPhone 6.
Phone is a global version running miui 10., and with Google pre installed.
When scanning cards into Google pay it is asking me to contact the bank for verification, however when I speak to the finance institutions, 28 degrees , amex St George they are saying they can’t see the card at their end and their is an issue at my end.
I am just an old fart and I thought I was doing alright transferring contacts etc from iOS to android, but this has got me buggered, so any advice other than tossing the phone and replacing it,would be appreciated.

Just buy a google play gift card online or in Woolworths or Coles

    • He's doing Google pay, not Google play.

sorry, read that as google play 🤦‍♂️, my bad

  • Is there an option for typing the details in instead of scanning? Might need the ccv number manually put in. St George didn't actually support Google pay for many many years, one of the many reasons I left them and went with Macquarie. Not sure if they do now or not.

  • The problem is likely because your Xiaomi is a security threat from China.

It has a hacked unlocked bootloader so the shop can load a hacked android for you.

Google pay is therefore compromised and will not work.

Awaiting neggers to neg me now, however it’s true

    • Same things occurs with root. I remember seeing people selling the device to unlock the bootloader for only $40.

  • For what it’s worth, I have have validated the imei on the Mi.com website and it confirms it as a genuine global version

Ok so was able to load my cards rather than the brides supplementary cards.
Still no luck with St George so loaded Xinja instead. Thanks for responses

  • Update to the latest miui 12.

My Google pay works on my global mi9se.

  • Check that your card address matches the address in Google Payments. If your credit card is registered to a different address that can cause the payment to be declined.
Try this, Sign in to https://pay.google.com with your Google Account. Find the payment method you are trying to use for the purchase.
    Good luck
