Best Gaming Rig for $1000 (PCPartPicker Poll)

Hi everyone!

I'm thinking of building a Gaming PC which is capable of 90-100fps 1080p Max for most AAA titles by the end of the year. The main games would be GTA V, Fall Guys, and uhhhh….. well basically all of the games which have been released for free on Epic Games.

Holding out for the release of the new 3000 series of cards so that I can get a better deal once I purchase it. I have 4 builds which range from $888 to $1150.

Ryzen 5 2600 and GTX 1660 ~$941.86

i5 10400F and RTX 2060 ~$1113.28

Ryzen 5 2600 and RX580 ~$877.86

i5 9400 and RTX 2060 SUPER ~$1059.08

I'm open to all suggestions as to what I can improve and I've tried to get a good balance of value and power. Thanks!

Voted for the 2060 Super, but I dont like any of the builds in terms of parts picked or an upgrade path

    • +1 for that build but I would up the SSD to 500 GB if possible. If you need to cut costs drop down to a 1600 af.

I'd be getting this, but purchasing a 2xxx series GPU second hand during this massive sell-off.

    • Fergy - that's nowhere near the $1000 the OP states…..

      • A few tweaks gets it close to the 10400F price above. Such as dropping to the 2600 or better still buying some second hand stuff once people start upgrading.

The only point I was trying to make is to get dual channel ram and a power supply with a bit more grunt so you dont have to buy another one if you upgrade later.

My build also includes some additional storage because these seem to all just have a small SSD which is pointless for gaming, where are the games going? - All of these builds would end up over $1000 anyway to be practical.

        • Boot and load times are not that big a deal to me so I was thinking of dropping in a cheapo 3-4TB Seagate or WD

edit: also if I can ask, is there any difference in terms of second-hand vs brand new parts? (especially the GPU)

    • I checked the comparison between the 3600 and the 9400 and it seems that the intel has better performance overall despite having half the threads (source: cpubenchmark)
