What Is This Bird and How Do I Retain My Sanity?

My neighbors own many birds. Most of them are okay but there are two obnoxiously loud ones that are grating on the ears. Here's a recording of one of them.

They screech non-stop like this early in the morning at 6am and then randomly throughout the day. It makes sleeping hard and disrupts video calls during remote work. What can I do about it?

And for curiosity's sake, what species is the bird? Do they screech like this when they're hungry? Under stress? Or this is just the norm for them?

Almost sounds like a kid throwing a tantrum…

Take your car to the mechanic.

    Is it this bird?

Everybody has heard of the bird.

Didn't click but…i think I know what song this is…

You can make a noise complaint with your local council.

Birds shouldn't be in backyard cages.

    Sounds like my wife.

  • sounds like a macaw to me

    • I think the screeching is too rapid and not loud enough for it to be a macaw but I could be wrong. The fruitcake who lives next door to me has two macaws in an outside cage and their screeching can exceed 100db. I am forced to keep my doors and windows closed.

Would knowing the name of the bird palliate your mental struggles? It is best not to know. Instead return to the antecedent state of feeling and let the jungle noises diffuse your primitive soul.

I'm trying to understand the root cause better so I can rationalize it and suppress my primal desire to leap over the fence with a spear in hand.

        Root cause: birds make noise.

Rationalise it: birds make noise. Nothing I can do. It’s not that bad if I just let it be.

      • Do you have spears on hand?

  • sorry listening to it again ,sounds like a wattle bird

  • Plenty of these arsehole birds in Sydney. Try and shoot it dead with a bbgun. Sorry, but that's the only solution if the owner wants to keep it.
I think it's the white parrot with that giant swirly yellow thing coming out of the head.

A sulphur crested cockatoo? They are protected and very illegal to kill them.

      • +1

I was joking. But they're so loud and annoying.

  • I don't think it is a cockatoo. Make a noise complaint to your local council.

  • Boobies?

I submitted a complaint via Snap, Send, Solve. It appears my neighbors aren't just raising birds for fun, they're running a business selling birds.j Probably treating their backyard as storage.

Hopefully it isn't legal and they get sorted out

eat KFC in their sight. Eat it slowly and dramatically.

  • Hard to tell from the audio, but would likely taste like chicken (hint hint)

  • Is there an app you can get to recognize what it is?
Like the app to find out what that plant is.
Like shazam to find what song that is.

I’m like 90% certain it’s an Eclectus parrot. I have two of them as well as two Macaws, and this sounds like them when they really want something and aren’t getting it.

Are they in the house or in an outdoor aviary? Also if they are Eclectus parrots depending what state you’re in you need a licence to have them, QLD is the only one that I know definitely needs them.

    • Wow, it definitely sounds really similar to the Eclectus parrot here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HouQKhkXs4w

It's outdoors somewhere. They have an aviary towards the back of their yard but it's coming from closer to the front of the yard. Might be in its own little cage.

  • Can you get a clear shot at it?

That audio made me laugh, because I was not expecting that at all. I have a loud ass bird that wakes me up at 4am and bwarks intermittently throughout the day, its so loud, but not like your screeching pest. That is just unbearable, dont make a council complaint they want a diary and all sorts of hoops you have to jump through, call the RSPCA.

  • Pet birds come under the Local Council jurisdiction.

Noise abatement… you are being disturbed by your neighbour's actions… so document, and then report.

  • Play some loud weather U tube sleeping tracks like rain or wind. They are great. It's a parrot of some sort. Chat to the owners. I have cockies that screech for me at the front door. I just bribe them with sunflower seeds. They screeched long before I fed them. Sound proof your window. Run the air conditioner. Maybe they can give the birds a solid Chew block or a friend if they're lonely. Birds should be free - mine come and go as they choose (I reared some wild chicks). I feed and water them and say a prayer every time they fly out for the day. But they're happier than a lone budgie in a cage.

  • Slug gun

    • make sure you get a high powered one, otherwise it’ll just be a remote slug feeder.

  • 99% positive this is Eclectus Parrot.
