Building Carport in Brisbane. Do I Need to apply for Site Variation or Relaxation?

Hello builders, town planners and savvy home diy friends of Brisbane.

I'm building / getting a company to build a carport in the front of my house. House is on 400m2 and after carport is built is within 6m of the front not past boundary line.

Heard some say a relaxation or site variation needs to be applied and some say no because it complies with Brisbane small lot code under 450m2 block and only council application is required.

Has anyone gone through this on a under 450m2 block and could tell me if a relaxation or site variation is required?

Thank you

Call your local council and speak to the duty planner. They will answer definitively for free.

And then extort a ton of money out of you for 'allowing' you the 'privilege' of paying for a new carport on your own property.

    • Sounds good… Is that like a town planner?

Will the building company engage a private certifier? If not then you will need to hire your own for building approval. The private certifier will be familiar with the rules.

    • Yes first thing I read

Includes building approval and a lot of other stuff but not a siting variation and the question is I'm not sure if it is required under small lot code
