Recommendations for a Bright, Small and Cheap Torch - Mainly for Photography Use

Hi all,

I know this site is full of torch and fla/eshlight enthusiasts, so wondering if anyone can recommend me a cheap torch I can use for photography?

I'm looking for something quite bright, that can light up the foreground during nightscapes.

Since I'm a pretty casual photographer, I'm not looking to spend heaps.

Cheers - was after something a bit more high lumen so i can light up rocks etc from 100 m away.

      • mini cree Q5 led torch then, has adjustable zoom and they're cheap

        • Not sure that would be bright enough to light up rocks 100m away.

What's your budget? Have a look at the Sofirn BLF SP36.

          • @dust: Cheers - probably <$100 is around the budget.

            That looks good!

@wittyusername: Sofirn is a fantastic price to quality torch.

They do use 18650s so if you don't have batteries or chargers you will need to spend a bit more to invest in it.

Lithium batteries are definitely worth it though for flashlights.

              • @dust: Jumping in to note that that SP36 kit comes with the batteries needed, and can charge internally :)

There's more stock on its way to AmazonAU warehouses as we speak, should only be a few weeks. Unsure if I'll have another deal at that point, but if I do, it'll get posted.

  • Armytek Elf C2.

USB rechargeable. Removable battery. Different colours available. Can change brightness.

For photography make sure the LEDs are "High CRI" (Colour Rendering Index). Otherwise you risk having poor colour reproduction in your pictures.

    • thank-you, had no idea this was a thing!

  • Have you done ant light painting yet? I'd be keen to see your stuff if you have, I tried it once buy wasn't very successful.

    • Not yet, I don't really like the style! I've just got my new sony from a recent deal and trying out some astro shots before the season ends!

I am using a Convoy S2+, it'll definitely light up for 100m and more. $17-$25.
