Audio System suggestions

The other day I snagged a Sharp 24" LCD TV from BigW (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56194) but since it's an upgrade from an ancient TV with mono sound, I still need to get speakers/audio to go with it.

I'm kinda out of touch with the latest technology and what the best & cheapest system would be, so suggestions for what I should look at getting would be much appreciated!

Thanks :)

    • bahahaha… nice one dude! :)

looking for some SERIOUS suggestions ;)

  • +1

These guys are diehards, and very knowledgeable. Even if their store is too far away for you (Dural), you should be able to get some information from their website.

The guys in Harvey Norman or JB Hifi are generally not very knowledgeable.

  • For a 24" TV, I'd just buy a set of Logitech 2.1 computer speakers or similar. ~$100 would get a decent set.

If you like listening to music (CD's, Radio etc.) then, buying a proper amplifier and some speakers is a nice option, but expensive.. $350 for a cheap amp and $400 for a nice pair of speakers.

    24" TV I don't think you're wanting surround sound.

  • One thing to double check is that you do actually have an Audio output from the TV..
Some cheap TV's don't have any audio out at all!

Headphone jack would be the best bet (just plug computer speakers in directly), if you only have RCA connectors (Red and White sockets), then you'd need to buy an RCA male->3.5mm female adapter cable - DSE or Jaycar should be able to sort you out (or eBay of course)

gagans's suggestions are what I was thinking..
If you already have a little mini system like the one you linked though, check to see if it has Audio input, then buy a suitable cable to match the output from the telly to go into the inputs on the back of the mini-system.
