Noise cancelling headphones approx. $200

First forum post, be gentle lol.
Seriously though, only looking for positive help here, it will be much appreciated.
My Dad who is 70 is after some over-ear noise cancelling headphones, preferably wireless, but with only a budget of around $200.
From what I have gathered from using this site the last couple of years the best are Sony and are around $400, correct me if I'm wrong.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Note: If considered a dupe, sorry in advance.

There are a number of options: try:

    • Sennheiser HD 4.50 BTNC ($250, Amazon Aus) or 4.40 BT ($168, Amazon Aus)

    • Plantronics BackBeat PRO 2 ($182, Amazon Aus)

    • Taotronics Hybrid TT-BH090 ($100, Amazon Aus)

All good mate. You getting the Taotronics for the old man?

        • Well that's why I'm here I guess, just looking for good quality for a decent price. If it was for me I'd look at some slightly more stylish brands, but he's just gonna watch YouTube music vids in his bed and try not to annoy Mum lol

          • @nepalesesquirrel: The styling is not for everyone but for your dad I reckon the ones I suggested would suit his usage.

    • These vs the 4.40's ? Carry case?

      • Can't comment on the 4.40's, I have the 4.50 and I love them. Comfy, and the active NC is great when flying.

  • He won't be flying any time soon lol
    Thanks for your input.

Been using the Taotronics for a few months, the noise cancellation isn't best-in-class, but very decent. Essentially, you get 70% of the performance that you'd get from a QC35 or XM3 - at 1/4th the price.

I've tried out the other options you've listed in-store and found no real-world difference between them and the Taotronics.

  • Thanks very much for your input. I did buy the Taotronics from Amazon for $79 with current $20 discount today, and I believe they should do the trick for my old man. Great to have some confirmation of this.
Might pick up some for myself, give my ears a break from the Galaxy Buds.
