Xiaomi Mi Monitor Screen Flickering with G-Sync on a FreeSync

I have a brand new Xiaomi Mi 34" Curved Gaming Monitor and its amazing. but I have a 2080 GPU and when I follow this guide and enable g-sync on it the screen keeps flicking in games (WoW)

It's really annoying and without it on its blurry and so I'm not sure what to do or what I can do, anyone else have this problem?

UPDATE: https://www.displayninja.com/what-is-freesync-brightness-fli…
This seemed to have fixed it somewhat, putting it to 90-144 however its a hit and miss sometimes..

I just got the same screen (and have an rtx 2080 too!) but haven't tried it in freesync / gsync yet.

However, I have read several times that the display port cable you use can affect black frame and brightness flickering in gsync (Google: gsync flickering displayport cable), not just for this monitor but many using the freesync version of gsync. Are you using the DP cable that came with the monitor or another?

    • DP cable that came with monitor..

  • try messing with the refresh rate in the nvidia control panel

It's supposed to be 144hz with Freesync and 100-120hz with G-Sync. Try setting it to 100 or 120hz in the Nvidia Control Panel and see if you get the same issue?

  • I'm having the same issue and I thought there's something wrong with my graphics card or the display/cable. Browsing Xbox game pass is easiest way to replicate this, although pretty evident on games which are 16:9 full screen or while multitasking.. Dropping it down to 100 hz fixed it for me, but I'm not happy that I have to drop down to 100Hz. If anybody knows a fix, please keep us posted.

  • ok so none of this helped its still flashing or flicking even at 50hz i even tried to play around with https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/agcj4a/how_to_elimi… and still no luck whats going on here?? is my screen faulty?

    • What is the update on this issue?

so are you still get flickering when gsync is enabled and the when the gameplay framerate drops to 50hz or 50 fps??

Is that mainly occur in the game menus?

I am interested in this monitor
but if flickering is occurring when gsync enabled then this is pretty disappointing.

      • I'm using this monitor with a vega 64 liquid cooled. It seems that it is sensitive to the cable you use. Using the included cable has no issues for me at 144hz freesync, but using another cheaper cable that I bought on amazon seems to trigger the issue at 144hz freesync. Seems strange considering you don't get this issue with hdmi cables. I'm gonna try to order another cable on amazon since I need a longer cable for my setup.

        • Agree with this using straight DP cable = good. Using amazon angled cable with DP1.4 rating = flicker. Going to go leave a negative remark on amazon now… I think this is solved. Get a good cable and I dunno where you can find a good quality 90deg DP1.4 cable.

  • Hey OP, I have the same monitor with the same problem. I ended up giving up on gsync entirely and lowered refresh rate so I could hit it for vsync consistently. The problem is apparently that if you drop below 72Hz or go back above 72Hz the panel can't handle switching freesync ranges and flickers. If you can keep it in either of these ranges consistently it shouldn't be a problem but I know that's not very realistic.

At the end of the day it shouldn't be a shock that a $500 ultrawide monitor that isn't even gsync doesn't work that well with gsync I guess!
