Netflix Argentina 35% New Tax

Just got an email advising new Netflix tax in Argentina.

A tax of 35% will apply to your Netflix subscription. You’ll see the tax as a separate charge on your credit or debit card statement.

Anyone else got this? Time to go to Turkey me thinks 😉

  • How do you verify the SMS for Turkey? I checked some virtual sms companies but they generally had pretty bad reviews.

    • In the original deal thread there is a link to help pass it

I moved from Argentina to Turkey. My ING card was successfully charged for the Ultra plan, and I'm happy I moved.

    Here is what I did.

1- Cancel your subscription few days in advance, you'll still have access.
2- On the last day go to account/settings and you should "Sign out of all devices" (not sure how crucial this step was).
3- Your account will lapse, leave it 24-48hrs meanwhile entertain yourself with FREE SBS on Demand or ABC iView.
4- Turn on your Turkish VPN go to https://www.iplocation.net/ under IP Location "details" and make sure all results are showing Turkish cities.
5- Open an incognito browser, login and follow the steps.

My AU mobile and my ING card were on file. I followed the steps above and it worked.

how much was charged with Turkey?

      • +1

        $7.54

  • Signing over from Argentina, got prompted for the Turkey mobile number, then card kept getting rejected. Purchased 100TL Netflix Giftcard from G2A, applied that and account is back up and running and my card is still listed as the payment method once the GC value is all used up. The value of the gift card averages out to approx $9.17Au per month, so not a bad workaround really.

    • I am having issues with the card being rejected also now.

Where do you enter the Netflix gift card details?

What happens if after your card gets rejected again after the credit on the gift card runs out?

      Purchased from G2A here: https://www.g2a.com/netflix-gift-card-100-tl-turkey-i1000000…
Not sure what will happen when they try charge my card. From what I can tell it was Netflix rejecting the card for not verify in a Turkey phone number. I'm hoping now that I have my phone number on there and an active account it will charge the card without issue; wait and see I guess.

      • Yeah I will have to try that also. It keeps giving me an error whenever I try charge my card

      • When you purchased the giftcard from G2A did you have any problems?

I have used Paypal and Credit Card and it keeps getting cancelled.

Did you have to set your VPN to Turkey to purchase the gift cards also as it says only for use in Turkey

        • +2

Don't use a VPN to purchase from G2A, your purchase will likely be rejected. Only need the VPN to redeem the voucher on Netflix.

@MattyAu: I put my VPN off completely and it worked!

            Thanks

  • Yep, I just got charged $13.50 or so on Up….
    Annoyed..

Any easy way to switch countries?

  • Trial subscription ended yesterday. Citibank charged $7.25 for the premium sub. Needed to answer "Y" to automated SMS from them to confirm not fraudulent.

    • Forgot to mention, I moved to Turkey.

  • I'm using Private Interent Access VPN, https://iplocation.net shows I'm in Instanbul, Turkey, but Netflix takes me to the Romanian site, and charges EUR.

I'm guessing Netflix detect any Private Internet Access VPN connections and route them to Romania. Does anyone know a VPN that Netflix thinks is in Turkey?

    • Cuz the VPN you're using doesn't work. Try Windscribe instead.

    • Yeah I use PIA also and it was doing that before but magically worked for 2 weeks last month.

    • I used Getflix VPN to move to Turkey

  • If people still have difficulty connecting to Turkey.

Use Hidemyass VPN 7 day free trial and it works perfectly for Turkey :)

Remember to cancel your 7 day trial before the date or you are charged $114 USD!

  • Guys, what's the charge for mid level plan in Turkey. The Argentine tax is annoying me. Thinking of moving to sunny Istanbul.

  • Brazilian subscription bought through VPN cancelled by Netflix
I am in Australia. I bought a Brazilian netflix subscription using vpn early April. Netflix has now cancelled the account. It worked perfectly fine before it was cancelled, my vpn didn't need to be on for it to work. Fyi I used an Australian debit card to pay, not sure if that is why it eventually got cancelled.

Just wanted to share my experience since I didn't find much info on this when I was looking through the subreddit.

I tried to renew my account (which was still in Turkey, but cancelled for a while now) but CC expired. Wasn't able to just add another CC (tried citibank, ing, wise and mystate).
Not even sure if I want to go through the pain to set it up, and then have it cancelled.
Wondering what they will do with "left over credit" if you use a Turkish Netflix voucher …

  • Any recommendations on what to do?
    1) Had a lapsed AU account with payment details on file
    2) Used Windscribe Turkey to log back in
    3) Selected my preferred plan
    4) Got error on payment page: 'There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use'
    5) Tried other cards (Visa, MC, AmEx), all show up the same error.

I read mixed reviews above re gift cards (not working) and I'm also not sure if it still works to reach out via web chat to update payment details 'manually' or through a form?

    • And payment details on file are still current? (a debit/credit card that's still active?)
I also couldn't renew, looked into it last week and noticed my account was now deleted.

      • Yes, they are still current (only lapsed yesterday).
