Best Baby Monitor and Camera

I am in the market for a baby monitor and camera for peace of mind. What can you recommend?
Main features I would like are:

  • good video quality
  • baby movement sensors and
  • ability to use an app for when away from home.

-ability to use an app for when away from home.
Not a great idea to leave your baby at home alone and rely on an app.

Haha I mean when someone else is looking after baby and I just want to check in.

If you have an old/spare phone there's plenty of apps that let you do this already.

    • I'm doing this at the moment using Dormi but theres been a fair few dropouts where I get audio only and have had to reset video on the child device, apparently it hasn't been updated in years so theres that but its the best out there ive used so far. There is a new app Bibino that might be worth trying as an alternative, the company originally made the Baby Monitor 3G but have just launched this with a new monthly payment model.

We used this https://www.kmart.com.au/product/full-hd-wi-fi-indoor-camera… and this https://oricom.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/Babysense-2…

We’re still using the camera and it’s great and has an app you can use from your phone. I’m really happy with the picture quality etc.

The breathing sensors were awesome when bub was younger, as it alerts you if movement is not detected I.e. not breathing. There’s a newer version now, the sense 7. A lot of people seems against these monitors but I found it reassuring, as you can’t constantly watch the camera. Once bub can sit themselves up in bed the under mattress sensors became useless as they false alarmed, but by then he was older and much more robust.

    • i was thinking of getting the oricom baby sense package with the video camera but if the Kmart camera is good quality then I will just get the sense 7 by itself.

Can the sense 7 be used for a bassinet?

      • Yeah we used it in the bassinet. We had to put it between a solid base and the mattress, so you’ll need a bassinet with a solid base (some are just slung upholstery with the base in the mattress), from memory we had move the layers in the bassinet around a bit. The mattress also has to be thick enough or have a solid base as the sensor pads themselves are relatively thick. There’s two sensor pads, when they are in the bassinet you just use one sensor pad, then you upgrade to two sensor pads when you put them in the cot. Have a look in market place for the sense 2 or 7 maybe as like most baby stuff it’s heaps cheaper second hand. We picked up our sense 2 as old stock with an audio monitor from baby bunting for $99 . With the Kmart camera there’s also one that can tilt and pan and i think there’s even a baby specific one that’s the same but shapes like a cute animal. With Kmart stuff I always find it reassuring that you can buy it and try it, and then if it’s no good take it back. If it did it over I’d possibly consider the camera that has tilt and pan as we just have the basic one sitting on the edge of the cot and from about 5-6months he learned to pull the camera down and it always ends up in the wrong position, or you could find a shelf etc to put it on. At least the selfies from the cot are cute

  • I've been using Cubo ai. I'm pretty happy with it. They are going to lauch their smart integration soon too. Which means that you could cast on your TV too. Have used it for a month now and am pretty happy. I like the fact that you can record and view past events.

    • Thanks. I will have a look into this. I have never heard of this one.
