Are All Wireless Chargers The Same?

Just got my first phone with wireless charging ! Through the S20+ cancellation deal with telstra posted earlier.

After a wireless charger now - theres quite a few on the page on Ozbargain but I don't know if I need a particular one for my phone?

Is there any risk using a random chinese one and not a Samsung one for example?

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but I've had trouble using non-branded batteries (doh! Fell for one of those high capacity battery ads on ebay) and cables (I can't figure this out but my old a70 WON'T charge with 2 separate cables I bought off ebay that were 2m but would with the in-box Samsung 1m one) before that just didn't work.

Thank you!

They all use something called qi wireless charing standard, that is at its core it is no different. The only difference is the built quality of the charger itself. I.e. branded ones are more likely to be made from better material, hence arguably making it safer to use. By “random chinese one”, do you mean one from Ali Express or like a Xiaomi etc wireless charger?

    • Thank you for the quick informative reply. Sorry maybe that was a poor choice of words - I meant like - going on ebay and sorting by price and picking the cheapest one - one of those cheap ones.

Is this Anker or Choetech a good choice? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/wireless-charger
Or should I get a Xioami like you mentioned? I assume no point shelling out of Samsung one?

No worries. I cannot comment too much on other brands since I never own it, but I can definitely vouch for Anker’s wireless charger. The brand is well-known among tech Youtubers. Generally speaking, you’ll do fine with any of them, as also suggest by the comment below, and yeah I do not see a need to go for Samsung only. They, too, are just using Qi wireless standard.

Great thanks - you saved me hours of research :) I'll get the Anker.
          Have a great week!

Not all wireless chargers are the same, as Rob said they have the same charging standard (Qi). Also note that different wireless chargers have different charging outputs (10W, 15W, 18W, 25W etc etc etc) and as Rob says different materials and build quality. For reference, the wall charger provided with your Samsung Galaxy S20+ is a 25W adaptive wall charger. That being said, Samsung branded wireless chargers at $100+ are a rip off and i'd never pay that much for a charger.

I would avoid the very cheap cheap Chinese chargers… I would never use those cheap A$$ cables or wall chargers as you never know what you'll get n potential for fire hazards etc. Plus if you have a $1300 device… why charge it with a $1 cable from ebay.

Anker is a reputable company and make quality cables, chargers and power banks etc. So I would opt to spend a little more on something with a decent reputation. I have a Anker powerbank, a Anker 18W car charger and a 60W Powerport Atom PD wall charger for my laptop, they do good products n haven't had any issues. Xiaomi also make pretty good quality stuff and way better than those unbranded rubbish you can find. Also check RAVpower. Something around 10W-15W should provide a quick charger experience, no need for those extreme Wattage chargers… you put unnecessary stress/heat on the battery over the long run.

        • Thanks so much for taking the time to type that all out - it is beyond helpful.

That was actually going to be my next question (which you premeditated and answered yay!) - regarding which wattage to buy.

Ill just get Anker 10W and be done with it.

Are all wireless chargers the same?

No they're not - some come in different colours :p

The chargers may all work in the same/similar way but I wouldn't go for a cheaper ones. Need to avoid letting the battery get too hot while charging. Heat is one of the biggest battery killers. I'd definitely only go with reputable brand and trust that the logic they've built into the charger won't damage the battery.

    • Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure about what's considered cheap here. Is this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/566222 Anker PowerTouch 10W Wireless Charger @$30 (20+10 delivery) considered one of the cheap ones?

      • Anker is one of the more reputable brands.
When I said "cheap", I meant the random ones you can find on eBay or Alibaba or etc for $5 haha.

        • Haha I see. Thank you very much :)
